For the final proverbial nail in the Gav-la coffin, I thought about some artists I wish were here today who would be totally engaged with and testifying about the current hellscape we're experiencing.

As with most artistic visionaries, this man was way ahead of his time. And sorely missed in this time. Here's a commentary from 13 years ago that's well worth your 3 minutes.

McCoy Tyner ‎– Extensions (Blue Note, 1972 First Pressing)

The fantastic pianist McCoy Tyner, unfortunately, passed away at the beginning of the lockdown (6th March) but left behind a fantastic legacy of work. From his time as part of the legendary John Coltrane group, through to his solo and own groups, his music was always fresh and pushing the boundaries. My personal favourite of his, aside from the Coltrane work, is his 1972 album on Blue Note, 'Extensions'. Its a fantastic modal album which packs in fantastic solos and interplay. Superb stuff.
