Sutherland Club House

Hello. New here and would like to ask HiFi Guy how his Duo experience is going as he seems to be one of the few owners of them in the Sutherland Clubhouse. I’ve enjoyed the Duo for four years and have been toying with the idea of updating to the LPS. Not much info online about the differences, in fact, that is how I found this group today. I’m liking the vibe, pun intended, with folks being more pleasant here than other forums I’m aware of.
Cheers!

Hi and Welcome!

I really enjoy my Duo. No regrets at all and I’ll likely not ever feel the need to upgrade.

I’ve thought of doing the LPS upgrade. It looks like an easy DIY to change the power supplies. But I’m happy as is, so I’m not sure I’ll end up doing it. I’ve got other things to get- a new stylus for starters and possibly an isolation platform for the turntable.

Also, if you want to page someone, use the @ symbol, like @OMC and they’ll get an alert.

Thanks @HiFi Guy for the feedback and the advice on posting. Will do. Haven't much experience on Audio forums as most of what I have seen is a little good input surrounded by tons of know-it-alls espousing BS. Looks different here.
Looks like I should add a profile of equipment and such.

I spoke with Mr. Sutherland yesterday about the Duo LPS update and asked if there was a Mk2 version of the Duo. He said no but that he has changed capacitor suppliers and that was the only difference between new and old models. He didn’t mention the date of the changeover.
Will he sell the power supplies for installation by the end user?

I didn’t ask the question directly but Ron did say he prefers doing the work in-house. He mentioned that it’s the kind of job that is much more easily done the second time than the first. You can infer that he would sell the boards outright. I didn’t ask the board cost question as I would prefer to have Sutherland do the job. Price for the upgrade is $800 plus shipping both directions. I plan on delivering the units in person when I go to KC to see family and friend soon. And to enjoy some Joe’s Kansas City barbecue!

Perchance did he discuss an Insight update? Because that unit is my goal and ceiling.

That's good BBQ.

Sorry, confined my questions to the Duo. Ron is always happy to share his time with us on the phone and is readily accessible.
One of the folks at Fidelis did an LPS update to his Insight. He said it was more difficult than he thought Ron made it out to be, but he got through it.

New member looking to upgrade my phono preamp. I only expect to be using MM cartridges and it seems Sutherland only offers combo MM/MC units? Everything I read really likes the Sutherland products. Is it worth the money for say an Insight if I only use MM?
Setup is a Technics SL-1210GAE with an Ortofon 2M Black feeding into my do-it-all Denon 8500 receiver. Currently using an Emotiva phono preamp.
Thanks!

I use an Insight with a MM cart (Goldring 1042) and I have zero regrets about the purchase.

Welcome. I used the Insight with a high output MI (Grado) and am using the same with my Duo. No issues whatsoever.

Also, don’t discount the Darlington MM-6 or let its low cost fool you. It’s quite good as well.
