My thoughts on the SNL 50 Homecoming Concert at Live Radio City Music Hall…

Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard are fantastic Miley demands attention in a room full of stars.

There were a ton of Hollywood stars in the room it made for excellent people watching.

Bad Bunny was fine.

The Roots crew are the perfect house band and can play pretty much anything.

Eddie Vedder covering Tom Petty and then going into ripping version of “Corduroy” with The Roots backing was fantastic.

I was surprised to find myself singing along to “I Want It That Way”

The Backstreet Boys tossing it directly to Devo was utterly surreal in the best way possible.

Speaking of Devo both them and The B-52s sounded excellent and were completely charming. Fred Armisen getting to drum for both artist was likely a dream come true.

Lauryn Hill and Wyclef (no Pras?) were a lot of fun.

Brandi Carlilie and Mumford & Son were better than okay.

Jelly Roll doing a pointless medley or Johnny Cash songs only proved that Jelly Roll ain’t Johnny Cash. I will say, this made me look it up and while Cash never performed on SNL, he did host the show in 1982 (with Elton John as the musical guest).

Snoop was in fine.

David Byrne, St. Vincent, Arcade Fire covering “Heroes” into “Wake Up” gave me goosebumps.

Whoo boy! Bonnie Raitt still smokes.

Fucking Chris Martin playing piano on “I Can’t Make You Love Me" at least he didn’t have a microphone.

Nirvana with Post Malone was high energy fun. I am not a huge Post Malone fan but he didn’t embarrass himself.

Robyn and David Byrne were an absolute party!

Cher!!!

Lady Gaga in ballad mode is good but not my favorite form of Gaga though she has one heck of a voice.

Jack White tearing through a cover of “Rockin’ In The Free World” leading into a pounding rendition of “Seven Nation Army” was epic.

The comedy bits of Nick The Lounge Singer, Astronaut Jones, the Ferrell/Gasteyer as The Culps, Andy Samberg Lonely Island medley with the help of Lady Gaga, John Mulaney, “Beyoncé” and ”Prince” were all fun and funny.

Overall a fantastic 3 hours. Also, streaming on Peacock was nice since the swears weren’t bleeped out.

Next up the actual 50th special which is like 4 hours long this evening.

This has been a wonderful time for SNL nerds.

It really has been. And nice write up.
My good friend's son is a page at 30 Rock, and was at the concert and is in attendance for the special tonight. What an era for him to jump in. (He just started there in the fall)
My friend, his dad, has been an SNL fan forever and is understandably beaming.

The newest White Lotus has Carrie Coon and Walton Goggins in it. That alone has me interested, so I watched E1 last night. Not a bad start. Mike White sure likes a certain type of young white dude to play an asshole each season.
Going to have to keep me updated on this one.
The first couple of seasons were great, we enjoyed the hell out of them.

I've read a couple of early reviews on the newest season, and they said it's not good. Same with Yellowjackets. We bumped both shows off our to watch pile for now.

I enjoyed the first episode. Walter Goggins is a good co-sign.

Yup that older brother creeped me out. His relationship with his siblings (especially the younger bro) is...weird.

I thought the premiere was good; it's def a show where the first episode is a bit of a wash as everyone's introduced. Glad to have it back; it's a great time to watch shitty people have bad vacations and hopelessly crush on Carrie Coon in the process.

Need to watch the music portion, but we did finish the 4 hour special last night.
It was well done. Eddie Murphy was fantastic.
I thought it was interesting that Akroyd and Hader declined invites.

I did fast forward the Cyrus and Howard performance.

For so many years, SNL was vital viewing for me and friends. I am grateful to exist in its timeline.
