Day 85

This is one of those funny little anomalies that occur from time to time - it's an album I absolutely love and adore but I have never once owned a physical copy of it on any medium. Which sometimes leads to longer spells than usual between listens. The downside to this is only that it's kind of ridiculous I've never owned a copy. The upside to this is I feel like I get to rediscover the album once or twice a year - and every time it brings me so much joy. This album has aged well - I'm certain I enjoy it more now than I did when it came out. Lush vibes that feel sophisticated and pleasurable the whole way through. "Sexy Boy" is my jam, and would absolutely be my entrance music if I were a wrestler. 5/5

Completely unfamiliar with this.

Day 87

Day 0087.jpeg

First Cohen album in my solo project and third one overall. What a nice excuse to revisit a bunch of his catalogue - I may have to find the time to do the whole thing sooner than later!

A solid follow-up to Songs of Leonard Cohen. I don't think it holds up quite as high as a whole album, but it does happen to kick off with one of Leonard's finest and best-known songs. Decidedly more stripped back in its production, the album continues to show Cohen's strength as a writer, though one of my favourite moments on it happens to be Leonard's cover of Anna Marly's anti-fascist anthem "La Complainte du partisan" - a gorgeous and powerful song. The back half of the album doesn't feel as strong as the front but it's still quality. Side A = 5/5; Side B = 4/5, ergo 4.5/5

Hey @Yer Ol' Uncle D since you are about, what the fuck is this shit and why is it important?

Besides you know that Robert Plant evidently smoked some really good shit and thinks this is a Leadbelly album or something.

To boil it down succinctly, they were kinda the European Grateful Dead - psych folk music that often incorporated traditional (Jerry's jug band days) music.

THE ALBUM IS ONLY 49 MINUTES, BUT THERE ARE 10 SONGS AND ONE IS ALMOST 8 MINUTES AND ONE IS 13. HALF THE DAMN ALBUM IS TWO WEIRD ASS SONGS. I'M ON THE 8 MINUTE SONG, IT HAS A SITAR AND A GUY THAT WISHES HE SANG AS WELL AS DYLAN SINGING LYRICS THAT WERE POSSIBLY WRITTEN BY BUDDY THE ELF.

My review on the project site is gonna read something along the lines of Imagine if Pete Seeger had taken acid and decided to emulate Renaissance music with sitars instead of being an activist.

I mean, I can't argue with the fact that that was indeed an album and a listening experience. Therefore, it probably has a place on the list. But oh boy was that just weird.

I used to really like this album. Despite Morrissey being a garbage person, I tried to listen to this today. I thought it would bum me out to find out that I still liked it after years of not listening. The first couple tracks were hitting well, but by about the midpoint of the album I was so bored and sick of it that it was tough to make it to the end. Occasionally there are flashes of instrumental brilliance that make with his particular vocal stylings well, but over the course of the album it turns into a pureed soup. Don't think I'll revisit it again. 2/5
