April 17 - Hookup Culture. Play an album that has a great hookup/sexy time song on it.
WARNING - playing this song will result in everything within a 3-mile radius becoming impregnated. Plants. Animals. Insects. Humans. Regardless of gender. Everything...
My first job was part-time as a flyer delivery boy when I was a teenager. I can’t remember exactly the first CD I bought with my own money, but this was in there.
I didn't go to college, but I was college adjacent. I played gigs at quite a few college parties; our band at the time was based in Ann Arbor so there were plenty. We'd hang out with the folks we met before and after and at other non-gig parties...Phish's music was usually part of the soundtrack to the evening...we even covered a couple tunes by them.
April 13 - First Heartbreak. Play an album that you would give to your heartbroken teenaged self after getting dumped/rejected
It's a Good, Good Feeling The Latin Soul of Fania Records: The Singles - no time to be down, chin up, it's time to get on down not sit there feeling sorry for yourself, there are plenty of fish in the sea!
April 16 - College. Play an album that you either first heard on a college radio station, or that you think all college students should be forced to listen to today.
John K. Samson – Provincial
John K. Samson should be compulsory in Canadian post-secondary institutions and very strongly encouraged anywhere else that studies English. This one even includes the song "When I Write My Master's Thesis."
"I'll bring the red wine you bring the ludes
Your mother's doctor must be quite a dude
We'll hang the 'Don't Disturb' outside our door
I'm gonna rock you till your pussy's sore"
April 18 - Hangovers. Play an album about alcohol, poor choices, or regrets.
Not necessarily about an album about hangovers, but there is mention of drinking margaritas at the mall and lamenting on poor choices made and their consequences. It's a beautiful record, but filled with sadness and despair. Even sadder is knowing that David Berman committed suicide shortly after its release.
It's been quite awhile since I've listened, but it's been in the back of my mind for a couple weeks.
Day 16: April 16 - College. Play an album that you either first heard on a college radio station, or that you think all college students should be forced to listen to today.
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
My University had an NPR station and only played modern music at like 2:00 AM on like Tuesday nights (and even that usually was mostly garbage. with edgelord DJs trying to see how much abrasive noise they could get away with play for their tiny listening area.) Thankfully I arrived at school just as pitchfork and internet blog culture was really taking off so I didn’t need a local Uber cool college radio DJ to introduce me to new music I could find awesome shit, download MP3s, and burn my own mixes of dope underground tunes; essentially becoming my own personal DJ. Interpol was one of those early discoveries were we were downloading copies of their early EPs and leaked tracks as fast as we could culminating in purchasing this CD the moment it was released.
April 14 - First Job. Either play the album you first bought with your own money, or an album that reminds you of your first job
The Beastie Boys "Licensed to Ill" - Went with first album I bought with my own money because the album that reminds me of my first job has already been played, shout out to @Turbo for getting to Bran Van 3000 before me, that Drinking in L.A. song was all over the radio and I think I heard it 5-6 times a day! The other choice for my first job was a cassette that got stolen by a co-worker so can't play that! This record has seen some shit in it's lifetime! I remember being so disappointed the cassette was sold out and I had to settle for the record! Still love this but cringe at the lyrics more and more as time passes!
Day 17: April 17 - Hookup Culture. Play an album that has a great hookup/sexy time song on it.
The National - Alligator Me and my SO have been together for 17 years now thus we missed out on all of the “swipe left“ dating apps. I do have a recently divorced bud who was quite enjoying himself on there though. Anyways, The National wouldn’t probably be most peoples first choice for sexy time music but they are one of my SO’s all time favorite bands. Probably wouldn’t play an album straight through but they definitely have songs that would fix well on sultry seductive brooding type bedroom mix, including this one…
