The Blue Note Thread

Supposedly the Blue Train SRX will be back in stock soon on the MM site. I think @Dark Star Boogie might have been looking for that one? Someone emailed MM and they said the jackets are being created now but should be up around the middle to end of September...
This is at the top of the list of BN75 pressings I need to replace! Thanks for the news! Were you the one that emailed?

I'm not the one who emailed but somebody over on a MM facebook group said they did and someone named Carol told them it should be back in stock at some point in late September most likely. I have the Classic Records pressing of Blue Train but am still considering going for the SRX...and selling the Classic Records copy.

Same boat. I’ve a black b, blue label and a damn near perfect King pressing. Would be cool to help out some US cats with a nice King pressing.

Keep us all posted.
The SRX vinyl I own is quite possibly the best sound wax I’ve ever dropped my needle on. Something about the percussion.

I’ll probably end up grabbing the 45rpm Soul Station and 45rpm Search For The New Land that I’ve been eyeing for too damn long as well.

Also, have you spun your Soul Station Jazz at 33&1/3 yet @MikeH?
I did spin it. I think it sounds really good! The only one (and I have to go back and relisten) that I got and wasn't super impressed with was the Lee Morgan Indeed! I ended up buying 5 more DeAgostini pressings after hearing some of the others hah.

Damn, I might have to just grab this press of Soul Station. Been trying to scale back my non stop purchases.

But man, it is such a great album.

Yea I just went on a two week record bender haha. Qobuz + Roon trial is holding me off for now from other purchases!
I almost put in an order for the 45rpm Soul Station, Search For The New Land, & Star Bright (listed at $35!!!) the other night but decided against it.

I just have this bad feeling they’ll be gone by the time I actually make the decision soon.

Picked this up at Powell's in Portland while I was there last weekend:

I'm still an absolute noob to jazz, and am gradually discovering more and more, but the design and typography that Blue Note uses absolutely draws me in.

The other day I stumbled across a pretty good deal for an OG mono Free for All. I already own the MMJ SRX version so I really had no right going after it, but I'm looking forward to comparing the sound on both soon!

Nice one! I just got the Uncompromising Expression book but have been eyeing the one you purchased as well!

In the spirit of this...to prevent myself from buying it...this has been up for awhile now and nobody has bid on it:

It appears to be a 1959 mono press (so that would make it the 1st mono repress I believe) with RVG stampers. It started out listed at $80 two weeks ago with no bids and this is the 2nd time it is re-listed now. I've been tempted to bid on it numerous times but recently got another pressing of it and trying to avoid duplicates haha. Might be worth a gamble for someone who has been looking for a pressing of Moanin!

This is the local record store that has the best variety of jazz around here! I'm gonna send them a message about maybe just coming in and making a deal! Also, I already own the OG stereo version of this! What am I doing??

Maybe you can go scope it out and see what shape the record is actually in...that was the main reason why I held off. But also I have another copy that is in perfectly good shape and sounds great so that's the other main reason why I haven't put in a bid hah.

My copy is in NM- condition. I'm gonna see if I can bring it in and test that one versus mine and see if I still want it.

Edit: also I may have reflexively bid on it immediately as well...

Continuing research into whether or not Moanin' in mono is just a fold-down and therefore not something I can find a reason to need has resulted in learning that this was actually the last session Rudy recorded using both stereo and mono recording setups.
