The Blue Note Thread

At the price it cost, an oversight like this is inexcusable. Blowing it off and saying "totally meant to do that, yo" is just begging your customers to never take you seriously and lose any interest in the next Anthology.
Oh yeah definitely and I fully expect VMP to make it right but we all know that won’t happen. I’m just thankful the music actually sounds good so I can be somewhat happy spinning that Dexter Gordon album.

So, I’m coming to the Horace Silver blind. I know that there were some people who seemed surprised that he was picked as Bebop and Allmusic claims this is Hard Bop, but I’m with Was and VMP this is definitely Bebop with some hard bop leaning (especially in the ballads). I take it this is atypical for him?

I believe they made an intentional decision to use the cd cover. I don’t believe they intentionally left the wrong mastering details on it.
Exactly. Even if we take them completely at their word that they tried hard to get the original art to work and couldn't, the fact remains this is still artwork with glaringly obvious mistakes. And VMP has been silent on that issue when several people have mentioned it.

Oh, the trio sessions here were recorded before Silver started using more minor chords and gospel inflections in his playing. This is certainly in the bebop territory, but rather than calling this atypical I would call it an early effort that shows a promise.

After these sessions in 1952 and 1953, Silver would spend a short but important period in Miles Davis's group before forming a group that would become the Jazz Messengers with Art Blakey.

Most of these things don't bother me, but they could have included a 1 sheet that had the original liner notes and had the right mastering details. Maybe all these things will be included in the book that we get at the end.

Can anyone recommend one Music Matters press over the other concerning Night Dreamer, Song For My Father, & Afro-Cuban?

I’m feeling financial naughty and want to pair one of these with Free For All & Speak No Evil. :devilish:
Afro Cuban. Much harder to find clean original/early presses, and it will knock your socks off. Night Dreamer is good too but much more chill so maybe it depends on your vibe. SFMF is awesome, but they are much more common in the wild. You can get a nice clean early/Liberty press that will sound great.

They have confirmed they won’t. Cam did say he would contact Blue Note today in regards to having the original notes available digitally.

I hope they won't add a Crate Digger track then. They wouldn't be able to find a nice original copy and would be like "Ok, so we intentionally spent intentional hours working intentionally on a new intentional sleeve so we hope you'll be intentionally happy with it, totally intentionally speaking":

I mean, I don’t care. I’ve spent my last dime with them and am really unsure if they are capable of doing anything that would reverse my decision.

Him saying they will try to get a digital copy of the art from Blue Note right after the official account said Blue Note did not have digital copies of the art was very interesting.
I think he was more asking permission to provide us a digital copy. I would assume they’ll just type it up as a post or magazine article.

The obvious answer is a one sheet. We’re not getting a new jacket. An insert sized sheet should not be expensive or honestly outside their ability to produce. Ideally, this would have been included with record to begin with and they would have corrected the mastering info and catalog number.
