Edit: I just checked that a $200 Topping E50 DAC can handle up to DSD512. I was surprised.

Caveat- I am certainly not vouching for the tape origins. It feels a little sketchy from here. But I haven't checked out others either. Just kind of wanted to check it out once out of curiosity.

That is one downside of this digital market. Hoping one day the gates open up for someone legit like a Qobuz and we can just stream it without having to pay for each title.


Like I said, give it time and we'll see how things unfold. Sooner or later they will be trying to upsell above the current Hi Res market. It's only about 10% of my listening so I'm in no hurry today.
 
There are some schools of thought that all pieces of gear should be isolated as vibrations can deteriorate sound quality. I have my streamer on an isolation platform, but that’s partly for looks. I also like the added mass in my rack as my turntable is on the top of it and my floors are lively.

Mounting to the wall seems to have fixed my lovely floor issues (still haven’t given it the whirling toddler test). Will eventually isolate the amp and the marantz though. More than likely when I buy a separate phonostage, it gets mounted right below the table.

My laser level is super awesome and was super cheap. It’s a little ryobi that you literally pin to the wall. I can’t remember what I bought the magnetic one for but it wasn’t even for the magnet. I just needed something smaller than my other level.

Don't knock it before you try it. I don't think it should be the first dragon to chase, but I've been surprised by far too many things that I thought could never make a difference to write things off.

While this is comical, I do believe a quality dac, with more importantly a quality analog in that stage, will improve the quality of even a Spotify stream. I think listening to Spotify on a high end DAC makes more sense then listening through Qobuz through a BT speaker.

I just found it funny that in the comments, the person thanked someone for recommending that they try Tidal over Spotify. It’s wild to me that somebody spending a few grand on a streamer has never heard of Tidal or other higher quality streaming services before.

People buy very expensive stuff for a variety of reasons and quite often it’s more as a status symbol because of the price as opposed to say one of us who might save up for years, or take out a small personal loan, to get the same thing because it sounds so damn good.
