The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

Don't knock it before you try it. I don't think it should be the first dragon to chase, but I've been surprised by far too many things that I thought could never make a difference to write things off.

While this is comical, I do believe a quality dac, with more importantly a quality analog in that stage, will improve the quality of even a Spotify stream. I think listening to Spotify on a high end DAC makes more sense then listening through Qobuz through a BT speaker.
DACs are funny things. Almost all DACs have Class A amplifier stages. Most use basic low noise op amps for amplification because the power requirements are low.

Coupled with the excellent and cheap DAC chips available off the shelf, the only area that is most subject to screw ups is the power supply, which takes care to execute with low noise. That’s why a $100 DAC can often perform as well as a $1000 DAC - there really is not much to screw up if you follow the playbook.

Erm I distrust and refuse to use algorithms so I make my own mind up and search for what I want to hear so I’m an Apple Music user but also useless to you.

thats not what i mean. not a playlist or stuff thats similar to what i listen to .
on spotify you just click on one icon and it shows you the newest releases by artists you follow . thats pretty much whats on my mind

I think you can click the star icon on the artist page of anybody you want to be notified of new releases about. But not sure if that will then make any kind of page to show you them all in one place

sadly that star doesnt do anything like that . oh well, im on a free 3 months trial anyways
If you have notifications turned on, clicking the star will have the app alert you when the artist has a new release. But the alert is usually late, which is weird.

I probably could just get rid of Apple Music at this point but I use it in the car a lot and sometimes we use it to play music on a google home.

I’ll only get rid of it when qobuz make Siri on CarPlay work. That’s absolutely the only way I’m picking the tunes while I’m driving!

I tried Apple Music but didn’t stick with it because it wasn’t easy to use with my main system. I use Qobuz for that.

It was great in the car and when listening from my phone, but I opted to stay with YouTube Music for non critical listening. I’m also addicted to commercial free YouTube.

I’ve had Apple Music since it started so it’s just kind of a habit to listen non critically with that now. Has all my favorites and playlists and stuff.

I use Qobuz/roon the most though in my house. We have Sonos speakers in various rooms and Qobuz/Roon is used on my two main systems.

My biggest gripe with Apple Music is that they don't play nice with streamers et al so you're kinda forced to use an Apple product to get it to work. I am in their ecosystem firmly, so it's not an issue, but it'd be nice to have a dedicated Node or Wiim or something that I can have as my streaming box instead of adapters and shit into an iPad.

My wife and daughter refuse to learn Tidal, so we have subs to both. Odd that Siri doesn’t work for @Joe Mac as it works through CarPlay for me, and I just have her listen for her wake up word when I do t have my phone plugged in. Either way, works like a champ.

Yeah I totally agree wifh that, although the newer generations of android streamers (eversolo and fiio leading the charge) are essentially big phones so you can just have the app on them. I stream so rarely at home though that it’s not the be all and end all for me.

I started using Qobuz/Roon in December. I like it. I also use it with the Sonos gear in my family room. Also, started using Arc in the car. It works great via Apple Car Play.

Fiio and Eversolo, and I think HiFi Rose all work with Apple Music.

Supposedly it works with Google, Sonos and Alexa, but they’ve all been very hit or miss for me.

For qobuz on CarPlay? If I say “Play definitely maybe by oasis on qobuz” it goes naw app don’t support that.
