The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

The only time I use the physical buttons on the Aries is when I can't find my phone and want to pause the music. Happens more often than I'd think haha.

That’d actually be very useful when you get a phone call and you’re steaming and you want to answer the call before it drops and it’s filling your screen and god knows where you’ve put the iPad and then your brain melts.

Yeah I like this thing, understated. Sits nicely in the front of the media console although to be honest I don't think it really requires any line of sight so I could probably bury it at the back amongst the birds nest of cables, but it looks nicer than the streaming cable box or the Apple tv so I buried them instead.

My wife was impressed with the sound, she could instantly hear the difference between this and the old Spotify. If you want to blow someone's mind with this thing, put on "The Man in The Long Black Coat" by Bob Dylan. It's a great reference track in high res.
you have found one of the secrets brother, if they can hear (many women can hear better than men!), and like the difference it helps! (and give them some of their own listening time too) 😋

Oh I very much sold it as "you can now just play music from your phone on this system without having to turn on ten different things". Despite all the various Apple TVs etc that we have around, it's always been a bit of a pain to play
without turning the projector on. I don't use an iPhone so I can't control it from my phone etc... This is much better. But yeah the multiple Hi Res versions of the same album is funny. I went to The Band and there were 4 different MQAs of both music from big pink and also the Self Titled. 2 for the original mix and 2 for the remasters. But you had to actually play a track from each in order to be told which was what, it wasn't listed on the album pic. Annoying but kinda cool to be able to choose.

We use Samsung also, good thing Audirvana has a Android remote app that works with our Macbook based music server, we also use VLC Remote for movies on it. Would like to get a new ipad one day to do this but just not in the gadget budget.

Reminder, you can also setup your own digital files to play off the bluesound as well.

Sounds like your pretty happy with the sound of the Bluesound for now. We just use a simple $200 Schiit Dac on ours and it sounds wonderful!

Well I know that one of the main differences on the NODE 3 was an upgraded DAC. So I'm not certain how it sounds compared to the 1 or 2 but it's pretty good to my ears. Certainly not as good as my vinyl in a one to one comparison of AAA audiophile pressings. But I really don't want it to be on par, at least not yet. I want my vinyl to be the star of the show, and something that I want to throw on when I'm looking for a listening treat. If this was on par I'd be very worried about how much I'd actually spin anything. But it's great for stuff like, Titanic Rising and other albums that have just awful pressings. The dynamics might still be a bit better on my vinyl press but high res is obviously so much cleaner and clearer.

I have the Node 2i and I’m wondering if there are noticeable sound difference between it and the new Node that just came out. Is the new Node even worth upgrading to if you already have the 2i?
We have the 2i (non Steely Dan model ) and do not plan on upgrading. But we do use a external $200 Schiit dac also. The new convertors in the 3 are supposed to be a slight upgrade from everything I read. But if I had the 2 and wanted a bit more I would look at external dacs (Topping, Schiit, Chord, Denafrips are a few).
