The football thread RenegadeMonster is looking for: NFL talk

Excited to get a chance to knock Brady out of the playoffs. Need to get revenge for that 2018 AFCCG.

Kind of scared of that Tampa front though without both of our tackles.

I feared this would happen, but that was way worse than anything I imagined. That D-line absolutely dominated - Mahomes was running for his life and still made some bananas throws that his receivers proceeded to drop.

Too many stupid mistakes and lack of discipline in all 3 phases, which they’ve had a history of doing even through last year’s SB run, they just finally ran into a team great enough to take advantage that didn’t make any mistakes themselves.

When the refs made it clear they weren’t gonna let the Chiefs secondary play their typical physical game early on, they didn’t/couldn’t adjust.

Brady’s knocked the Chiefs out of the playoffs 3 out of the last 5 years. I hate him😂

I watched the game on and off through the 3rd, while the Tampa D was firing on all cylinders, Mahomes looked completely out of his element from the get go. It's like he had fear in his eyes the minute he got on the field.
I thought he gave a valiant effort but the pressure was unrelenting, even still he made some amazing throws under duress that would have made it a much closer game had the receivers been able to pull them in. I think KC might have to find a valid 3rd option at receiver. I watched a lot of KC games this year Mahomes was my fantasy football QB) I it was really the most pressure I had seen him under all season. I think KC really didn’t know how to handle the pressure upfront and it showed.

I still can't get over how good TB's defense looked last night (and the two games before that) while looking awful against Washington in the Wild Card round.

Interesting little tidbit. It struck me with around 6 minutes to go and 3 scores down that Mahomes and team were huddling up on 3rd and 1 and the clock running. That felt really weird, even for as essential as that 3rd and 1 was (given this was definitely 4 down territory). So I looked at his splits.

Patrick Mahomes has only taken 2% or so of his career snaps in the no-huddle. Brady is around 10% since they've tracked it, Rodgers and Roethlisberger around 14%. Rivers around 8%. Even Lamar Jackson is around 6%.

No-Huddle is really good at getting bad personnel package matchups on the field, slowing down pass rushes (by exhausting defenses and not letting them tee up on snap counts and the like which it sure seemed like Tampa did), and generally causing uncertainty (while going fast).

This isn't to say he can't by any means (the stats are worse in 34 throws which is a nothing sample) but I find it very interesting how little they go to no huddle (and non-shotgun formations) and how that may have hurt them less night. Brady won several Super Bowls against aggressive, fast, powerful defenses by playing dink-and-dunk, no-huddle offenses and keeping possession for extended periods of time. The ability to line up big, under center, can be necessary against overaggressive pass rushes as well. His inexperience doing either lends itself to this kind of defense being problematic. Russell Wilson has been quite successful barely running no-huddle as well but I think it's a weak spot when it comes to playoff games when you may have to do this more often.

(Note; I don't think any QB is winning that game with that line performance by KC vs. TB but it was particularly bad in this matchup)

Yeah, no-huddle has never been a big part of Andy's regular offense in KC (not familiar enough with his Philly days). They usually only go to it when down multiple scores in the 2nd half, which hasn't happened much in Mahomes' career, which is why his % is so low compared to those guys.

Mahomes ran the no-huddle well in the Super Bowl last year in the 4th quarter comeback though.

A lot of their offense consists of long-developing routes & plays - a lot of the quick-hitting stuff Mahomes hits are hot reads based on blitzes. Tampa just didn't blitz much in the game. They also do a lot of jet sweeps & screens which should help slow down a pass rush, but I think that wasn't a huge part of their gameplan because of Tampa's speed at linebacker. They tried to run more & did it well coming out of halftime, but then that drive stalled into a FG, and then Tampa scored a TD to go up 3 scores with a 1.5 quarters left.

The O-line was all backups except for our center. I didn't think losing their LT Fisher in the Bills game would be this catastrophic since the rest of the guys have been playing together since November and haven't been terrible. But the whole line got dominated, and it wasn't just around the edges, they were penetrating the pocket and Mahomes had nowhere to step up to. And they were doing it with 4 guys, leaving 7 defenders covering 4 receivers in routes - even the short dink & dunk stuff was covered. Our RB had to stay in to help chip block their edge guys and then would run out to the flat usually. There's just no answer when your O-line gets that thoroughly outplayed.

The Super Bowls ratings are in. And they are a disappointment seeing a decline in viewership over 2020.
Bad, cynical ads attached to a boring blowout where Brady wins once again. I watched and I kinda wish I had just turned it off halfway.

its really not four years. It's voidable after 1 but if he loses this year i think he comes back again for number 8. If he repeats i think he bows out
