The Funhouse - The Punks are all right

My War is mostly good in the first half, the title track is doing a lot of heavy lifting. But the second half is all slow and sludgy that it's basically a completely different band. I can't say I've listened to Family Man more than once years ago but everything Black Flag did after My War is completely forgettable from what I remember.

I used to think that, but Loose Nut and In My Head are both pretty solid. I’m also one of those folks who prefer My War side two.

One of my favorite German punkbands just managed to score their first ever german number one album ( 30 years into their career)
Disclaimer:the guitarist used to be my brother's neighbour and is apretty nice guy

Been making my way through the Rolling Stone list again.

Misfits - Walk Through This, was fantastic

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell, I own this one. It hit me harder than it has in the past, dig this one

Sonic Youth - Evol, I actually really like Sonic Youth. This was an odd one to be on this list. Good stuff though

The Replacements - Sorry Ma, I Forgot to Take Out the Trash, I’m not overly familiar with The Replacements. This is. It what I thought they sounded like. Other than some poppy underflows to the music, what really stood out was the humor. This one needs more time for sure at some point.

The Germs - GI, harder than I thought anything from 79 would sound. Like Black Flag a little too sloppy for me to really dig it.

Minor Threat - Complete Discography, love this.

Flipper - Genwric. Made it about a quarter of the way through this one before I had to do some stuff. Did not like what I had heard, will return to give it a full listen at some point.

I’ve also checked out The Stooges debut which I really dig and the first Buzzcocks album which I loved. Stooges was from listening to Our Band Could be Your Life. Shit, I checked out the first Bad Brains record, not what I was expecting will need to go back to it at some point. Buzzcocks was from reading the Joy Division 33 1/3, also listened to their first ep which is decidedly more punk than Unknown Pleasures. (Not very good though)

I also started watching (but fell asleep) 24 Hour Party People. Is the book supposed to be funny. The movie is weird and I don’t necessarily like it outside of the nice chronology of the whole Factory deal.

I also listened to Descendents - Milo Goes To College which I dug and New York Dolls debut recently. I really liked New York Dolls but have a hard time with them being punk (at least that album), it seems more Bowie/T. Rex to me.

It kind of isn't. If you ever wanted to venture into thier discography they change sound with each album to become slightly less punk and go more alt-rock. Somewhere along that journey they hit a sweet spot with the album Tim (Yes Tim is better than Let it Be). It's an 80s college rock classic.

Also... I don't believe Wipers - Is This Real? is on that RS list but it's my pick for being ery good album that's seemingly not mentioned among many great punk albums.

I think I agree with you about Tim. Let It Be is amazing and it totally changed my life when I heard in 85, but also feels it is 1 song short of great. If a song like Bastards Of Young or Can't Hardly Wait (which was written just after Let It Be was released) was on it, LIB would be an absolute classic.

I love the Mats and I’m not sure I could pick, but gun to my head - I think I agree with this.

I’ve always thought that if you replaced “Lay it Down Clown” with “Can’t Hardly Wait” Tim would probably a 10/10 album and may become my favorite album of all time. I do think Can’t Hardly Wait in its form on Pleased To Meet Me is perfect for that album. That version of the song would feel out of place on Tim. However, there’s an electric and acoustic version out there, the electric which may fit better with Tim.

Alright, I'm trying Generic by Flipper again. Life is Cheap sounds like a Dalek is the new singer for an even more amateurish Black Flag.

Also, the revelation that Black Flag practiced 8 hours a day 6 days a week in Our Band is astonishing, because on album - to date, they seem to get sloppier and sloppier. So weird. I have a live album for them coming up soon, maybe that will change my opinion... I was listening to Everything Went Black yesterday morning and even the stuff I knew sounded better on it, so I am either getting acclimated or they chose the worst versions of songs for albums...
