The Funhouse - The Punks are all right

@scotthilk i like it. It’s a lot to take in, so much more than one track. It’s dense and shifty. I always kind of thought of them as a fun punk band ala Blink 182 which is not for me. I’m not completely sold on the singer’s voice - there were times it worked and times it didn’t, for me. I love the sentiment of the piece though. Solid stuff. Want to give it a few more listens before I move on.

NOFX is a bit all over the place. They will go and write a punk-rock opus like this, or other great straight-forward punk rock songs with social commentary and then turn around and write a song about two lesbians fisting each other. NOFX doesn't take themselves too seriously - but when they do, you get something like The Decline. I love them for the sum of all parts. They might be my favorite band of all time, which I debate with myself regularly.

I love doing Discogs random plays, it unearths nice oddities in my collection. Todays is Pailhead, a side project for Ian Mackaye (Minor Threat) and Al Jourgensen (Ministry) which has to be one of the oddest pairings I can think of.

I still think this is a strange pairing:

The bass player from Butthole Surfers and Kishi Bashi’s touring banjo player. It’s instrumental banjo pieces.

Go make a post in the "Rank The Albums" with your BR picks.

Still haven't had any time with True North or The Dissent of Man, but I've been thinking about a ranking otherwise and here's where it currently stands:
  • Stranger Than Fiction
  • The Gray Race
  • No Control
  • Recipe for Hate
  • Suffer
  • How Could Hell Be Any Worse?
  • New Maps of Hell
  • The Process of Belief
  • Generator
  • The New America
  • The Empire Strikes First
  • Age of Unreason
  • Against the Grain
  • No Substance
Despite being in last place, and generally maligned, I actually enjoy No Substance quite a bit. "The Biggest Killer in American History" would be very high on my list were I to ever try ranking the songs in their catalogue. It and "Sorrow" (from The Process of Belief) are safely my favourite two BR songs since 1997/1998...

*I've also left Into the Unknown off this list since it's been pretty much disowned by the band. Been a lot of years since I've heard it but I really remember liking it a lot!

This is awesome!

. I knew “Olympia, Wa” but had not heard the rest of this
Just read yesterday that this song was written because tim Armstrong was involved with tobi vail of Bikini Kill at that time and she was the reason in the song of wanting back to olympia WA

This is my listens per artist since Friday.
Amazing!

For what it’s worth, my 3rd favorite of theirs is Indestructible. It may land on the poppier side of what you like, and that’s what I like about it. I’d say it’s a slightly more commercial version of Wolves. Anyways! Happy listening, my friend!

PS- The pivot, if that isn’t your bag, is many people’s favorite “Let’s Go!” I’m guessing you’ll like this one more!

The rest are great, but not the same tier for me.

Cheers!

I don't mind Poppy. Hell, Back in the day, I was a huge Green Day fan. Somewhere around Insomnia they lost me. I definitely don't like what I have heard from Blink 182 though and that kind of stuff as a general rule doesn't really appeal to me.

Rancid is opening for Green Day on their upcoming tour! (And Smashing Pumpkins… great lineup)

Smashing Pumpkins at Lollapalooza was one of the worst sets I have ever witnessed.

Green Day at Lollapalooza was one of the more fun events I have ever witnessed, Billy Joe told the lawn to rush the stage. So eventually, security cut their PA. They played like three more songs before they were escorted off the stage and management came out to reprimand all the people who had come up front.
