The Good Ol' Grateful Thread

Caught Dead & Co. last night, second time seeing this incarnation. Was pleasantly surprised at the energy they brought this time through. Really solid show. Bob's voice was definitely better than the last few times I've seen him, Mayer continues to impress with his soloing - lots of interplay between him and Chimenti. Highlights were Cumberland Blues which hit a great groove, and the end of Space which ended w/ a bit of Blues For Allah. Plus Cassidy, He's Gone, and Black Muddy River, which when reviewing setlists from past shows I realized were played at my first Dead show 30+ years ago (11/15/87)

Full setlist:

Set 1: The Music Never Stopped > Easy Answers, Row Jimmy, Friend of the Devil, Cumberland Blues, Cassidy, Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo

Set 2: St. Stephen --> William Tell Bridge --> The Eleven --> He's Gone --> New Speedway Boogie, Drums --> Space --> I Need a Miracle --> Death Don't Have No Mercy --> Good Lovin'

Encore: Black Muddy River

I saw the Dallas show and had the same comments. Their first set was fantastic.

They are shutting down the 50th anniversary merch site after this week, some great deals to be had if you happen to wear a mens small.

Amazing to think that was over 6 years ago - I was at the Levi's Stadium shows.

And get well soon Billy! He missed part of the LA shows due to non-covid related illness.

Just an FYI the Fox Theater show is on Popmarket for $88.79 to pre-order, with THANKS10 it's $80. Also Two and Three from the Vault are $68.79 each on there. My One from the Vault was cancelled by LITA, so I came across these while I was looking for that.

A nice write up…

Great write up (even if I was a beer swilling Alpha Tau Omega who first saw the dead in '87, little scary how on the nail that sentence was).

The part about Bill Walton is spot on. He lives in town, and you see him at every dead / dead related show. Not my video, but one of my favorite memories is seeing him join Mickey Hart onstage at the Belly Up for Fire On the Mountain....

Are 2 and 3 actually in stock? Because LITA says mine aren't coming until April now...

Huge shout out to Comeback Vinyl over my missing One from the Vault. At first they said if it didn't appear by December 4 they'd issue a refund. So I asked if ordering another copy now would be my best chance to get one before it's gone and they replied and said no need, they over-nighted me a replacement that's out for delivery today. Will definitely be throwing them more orders.

If that other one does show up, can you hit me up? I would like to buy it off you.

I told them I'd send it back if it shows up, otherwise I'd definitely have shared the love! But in my experience here I bet the postal worker put the key to the locker in a neighbor's box and they stole it or returned it to sender. Only once before has a record ever shown up after this has happened.

does anybody happen to know the difference between the two Jerry Garcia Band box sets I'm seeing? There seems to be one 5LP that's around $90 and another that's around $60?

I think the only difference is that the $90 one is 180g.

edit: I assume you're referring to the self-titled live album.

yes that's the one i'm referring to. straaaange....both are at Target and probably in the B2G1 free sale. So wondering if it's worth it to spend the extra on the 180G since I'd pretty much be getting it for the price of the non 180G...or go cheaper and get the non-180 for $40.

"Deluxe 5 LP set: 180-gram vinyl, debossed foil stamping, textured paper wrap."

A few differences, none of which may matter to you.

yea doesn't really sound all that different. only worry would be if the 180 is pressed somewhere else...probably wouldn't be but who knows anymore...
