Reminds me of The 2015 Royals with Ned Yost. Never thought Yost was a very good manager and fell like had he not won the WS that year he woulda been canned.
Yost reminded me of George Bush (2nd one). Put him behind a powerhouse and he’s gonna fuck up and look like an idiot but there’s no way he’s gonna completely fail. Those WS Royals squads were immaculately constructed.

Bud out in Milwaukee. When they won the title in '21 I remember thinking I wouldn't be surprised if he got clipped. For some reason it felt like they won in spite of coaching. Guess it took a couple seasons to sink in.
Bud was great the first year he got here. He'd stand there in his power stance and actually get into the games. He led us to a 60 win season, and a couple games away from the Finals. After that his demeanor completely changed, and every game he'd be on tbe sideline with huge bags under his eyes, and that confused Bud look on his face. He just became so terrible at making any adjustments in game. He road the coattails of the players to a championship which kept his job a couple more years. I love the guy, but it was past time for him to go. Feel bad for him and his brother during this last series though.

He's George Karl. Karl was an elite regular season coach who found ways to minimize flawed players but was too stuborn to make adjustments or alter schemes in the playoffs.

That Royals WS is one of the most irrational championships in my lifetime of any sport I've ever followed probably only surpassed by Leicester City winning the premier league.

Small ball coaches everywhere rejoiced as their style of play was put on full display. Then, as quickly as it arrived, it was never seen again. Truly an anomaly. Their pitching staff was also lights out though.

Zach Lowe has a good discussion of Bud on his pod yesterday. He’s going to be hard to replace, but no adjustments and no half-court offense made his time run out.

Denying the rim to concede 3 pointers is a great strategy over a large sample. That variance can either work in your favor or bite you in the ass. Bud's teams have experienced both sides.

As an Orioles fan who attended the 2014 ALCS, it was so painful to watch your team, which was clearly better over the course of the year get small balled to death and have no answer to what was going on. It was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life.

Emotionally preparing myself for the Nuggets to lose a hard fought WCF series with questionable officiating for the third time in my life. I'd so much rather face the Warriors regardless of which team we are more likely to beat.
It looked as if they were gonna coast to a sweep but Booker and Durant had other plans. Which begs the question: was CP3’s molasses-style of play holding them back?

It was never gonna be a sweep. I originally had Suns in six, after we won the first two I thought it might be Nuggets in six.

Either way, Mike Malone is holding the Nuggets back. When he said we didn't need to make adjustments for game 4 I knew we were gonna lose.

Dude always takes 2 losses to change anything in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Monty has spent the whole series experimenting.

Jeff Green was our worst player in the regular season. Yet stayed ahead of guys who outplayed him when he came back from injury. He was a -20 in tight game 3 and a -16 in a 3 point loss in game 4.

What's the other option for an 8 man rotation instead of Green? Now I don't watch all the late games so I might be wrong but it seems like Green has been on with Jokic off, so of course the +/- is gonna be trash but they've been dominating net rating in the playoffs due to being ok on defense while playing Gordon at the 5 with Jokic off. Would you try Cancar or Nnaji or Bryant instead?

I forgot how much I hate watching the Heat play. Love Jimmy Butler but watching 48 minutes of Bam and Zeller setting illegal screens right in front of the refs with no call is so infuriating:

Bam has now injured 5 Knicks players this series alone. It’s wild.

Lol, yes, the refs have really had it in for the Knicks this series..

The reffing has been terrible for each team at times this series. I’m tired of watching Brunson (who is a wildly impressive player and absolute badass) get away with push offs and throwing his shoulder into players on drives because he’s too small to call it. But I get your sentiment, I honestly hate watching the Knicks play too.

These are two blue collar teams and it’s been physical all series - but it’s so easy to pull clips to prove a point (the continuation 3 Brunson got at the end of game 2 that even confused the announcers, the Heat jumper that hit the rim the refs ignored and called a 24-second violation for).

I mean...did I say that? are those not both illegal screens? The ref is even looking right at Zeller while he grabs Hartenstein and physically moves him out of the way to clear space to get a 3 pointer off. And this isn't a Knicks thing--the Heat do this every round in the playoffs because they know they get away with it. They did it last round too against the Bucks. Any time Bam sets a screen he moves his feet and leans into the defender. They have maybe called it once this series on Bam. And quite a few have been dangerous too. Bam has now injured Grimes, Quickley, Randle, Brunson and Mitch this series alone.

Reffing has just been really inconsistent which I hate in any game regardless of who is playing. There are some calls they called on the Heat that they let the Knicks get away with and vice-versa. Just call the game consistently.

The knicks haven't been losing the series because of the reffing. We've been losing it because we have been making too many bone-headed plays and Spo is a hell of a coach. Our team also just looks exhausted out there and banged up. Still doesn't make the moving screens and Lowry hooking players on the arms to get foul calls fun to watch.

Definitely agree on the calling the game consistently. And you’re right, those are illegal screens - do other teams also do them, I’m sure plenty do. Apologies, I’m frustrated that the series is still alive and that we lost last night.

But I also feel like some teams get called scrappy and some dirty for doing many of the same things.

For sure, though the Knicks got Lowry back last night on a nice hook from Barret to get him his 5th foul. Jimmy looked real human last night also - both teams definitely banged up at this point
