The NBA Thread

You should be thrilled that Clips have such a great team, but assuming anyone is staying with his current team for any amount of time suggests you haven’t been paying that close attention to the league...things change quickly. Just ask Heat, Spurs, Cavs, Warriors fans.
And that isn’t mean dismissively -I meant it more as just a commentary on how abruptly the league changes.

Hell, ask OKC and the Spurs lately...PG left after one season on his new deal and now they are going to blow it all up. Went from having three future league MVPs on the same team to never returning to the finals again and two consecutive first round exits. Kawhi left what people thought was the most stable franchise in the NBA, leaving them without a franchise player. Then he won a championship and finals MVP and became the only finals MVP ever to change teams the year after they won.

NBA is rapidly changing and it’s not even just about money anymore. Having the bonus of being able to offer that extra 5th year to stay with your team is somewhat meaningless.

I’d be down for Kawhi to be a mercenary after that and just go to play for teams that haven’t won a championship and get guys rings.
I totally get what you mean, and I didn't take it as dismissive @Psymon!

I agree, players are pretty much starting to leave at will, and even long term contracts don't mean shit. As a Clippers fan, I get it after them trading Blake Griffin. Franchises don't care about loyalty nowadays and neither do players.

Warriors kept their dynasty going for a while because they were dominant and those guys wanted rings. Clippers have a attractive quality right now which is why we are able to keep players like Harrell and Lou, and is what is attracting stars like Kawhi and PG. Does that mean it'll stay that way? Not at all.

I think players will definitely come and go, but the reason I'm saying it's pretty likely Kawhi will stay for longer than his current contract and is because he literally just wants to be home. He wants to raise his kid here, so why, when the kid is only two years older, would he wanna move team to team? I could be sounding naive, but Kawhi is a really different dude and seemed to make the move due to his family rather than basketball reasons.

Then again who knows what he thinks and where he will end up eventually. Right now he's a Clip and we gonna get that ring, what it do baybee!

OKC now has 15 first round draft picks between 2020 and 2026. They'll obviously trade a bunch of those, but that's just absurdity.

Yea I think the Clippers depth just wore them down over the course of the game.
And to think that PG still wasn't playing...FiveThirtyEight has the Clippers adding 10 wins if PG takes all of Patterson's minutes hah. I think if they can stay healthy, they might be the favorites. I just don't see the Lakers winning a championship with this roster.

I thought the games were fantastic yesterday.

Honestly, Lakers started out well, and once Chairman LeBron and AD learn how to work with each other, I think they will be fine. Green was great for them.

Clippers are fighters, man. I love this team so much. They have so much heart. Pat Bev is goddamn wizard. And what a debut from Kawhi! This team just gels. We even made Patterson look decent! So excited for this season!

Clippers are so fun. I liked them a lot last year and they added Kawhi and PG so they are going to be the team to beat. Coaching last night was a big factor too--Doc is just a way better coach than Vogel. As we saw last year, depth is very important and I don't think the Lakers have a ton of depth. It's going to be interesting to see what moves they make at the deadline and how they gel. I don't know that Bron can play point for the whole season.
