The NBA Thread

Trae Young put on a show tonight. I had to double check to make sure it wasnt Steph shooting from the logo.
Damn. DRose has himself a game too. Trae is really really good. A lot of people counted him out before the draft and early last season. The kid can ball though.

One of my hot takes is that I think the Suns will be better than you predict. They were actually playing defense last night and looked good. Booker has to do less now on offense and Rubio was a really underrated pickup for them. They have a good coach too. I get that it's popular to shit on them (and my Knicks) but I think the Suns look improved this year if they can sustain it and coach gets Booker to buy in on both sides as he did last night. I predict that they end as a 9th or 10th seed this year.
Good take. 2-1, beating the Clippers (without two of our starters) and only losing to the Nuggets in Denver in overtime so far. This team looks like a completely different animal than years past. There is actual cohesion and pieces working together, rather than a random collection of 19 year old draft picks. It's still WAY early of course, but this team feels different than any of the trash we've put out there since the Steve Nash era ended. Amazing what a real head coach and a few decent to good veterans can do.

Yea with Ayton suspended I thought they might drop off (I know it’s early) but it’s an actual mix of decent players and some of their gambles like Kaminsky and even Oubre have looked good. Lessening the load on Booker is doing wonders for them. Can’t believe they beat the Clips without Rubio and Ayton.

So I’ve decided to get into the NBA this year. I’m basically sticking with one team as of right now to follow, but I’ll be branching out as the season moves forward. I chose Atlanta Hawks because, well, it’s as close to local as I can get. So far they’ve been pretty great. The game on Saturday was awesome. And I’m pumped to watch them again tonight. It’s been a real easy move into getting into this, although I’m such a little newbie right now. The Hawks got me into it, and I hope to go catch a game sometime soon.

so far I’ve been really enjoying diving into the NBA and look forward to slowly checking out other teams and whatnot. Right now, I’m barely into things, but it’s nice to have a new thing.

Good choice! The Hawks should be a fun team to watch and you chose a good time in their rebuild to start watching. The Memphis Grizzlies would be another cool somewhat local team to watch since they are at a similar stage and have some exciting young players. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch (especially live). The pace is fast and it's easy to have some favorite players since most teams only really play 10-11 players any given game and it's fun to watch a team grow and players improve.

It should be a fun year to watch the Hawks. Trae Young alone should make it worth it, I'm low key excited to watch him against the Sixers tonight

Is WebEmbiid still out?
I havent heard anything official yet, but I'd assume yes. No need to rush him back. I dont need a healthy Embiid in the second or third game, I need a healthy Embiid for the end stretch and playoffs.

I've seen a few beat writers guess that he plays tonight. Would have to hope they learned their lesson last year and he's only gonna go this early in the year if he feels 100%,

This might be the best picture in sports history.

Same. The final 2 minutes of a close NBA game is a stressful thing. That Hawks team is going to be tougher than I thought this year.
I really wonder who they can get in FA this summer (if anybody wants to go). I kinda want to see them go after Ingram this summer if he keeps up his play.

It’s so much more fun/stressful than football or baseball which I’ve dabbled in and out of watching over the years. NBA is for me so far. I’ve enjoyed these games so much. Now if I were going to follow a second team, who’s a good pick? Hawks are the one for me at the moment but I’d like to catch some more variety too

Basketball is by far my favorite sport too. The pace is fast, teams can go on big runs, the end of games can be extremely exciting, and it's easy to either follow a team or an individual player...I definitely recommend trying to see a game live at some point too.

If you want another young team, the Memphis Grizzlies should be fun to watch. I'm a Knicks fan but I would never subject you to that haha. You came into watching the NBA at a good time because there is no clear favorite really this year to win it all. In the past 5 years or so, it was pretty much a given which teams were making it to the Finals before the season even started. There are a lot of young exciting teams and then some power duos across the league.

Good to know. I’ll check out the Grizzlies too. And yeah I don’t live far from Atlanta so I’m already trying to make plans to see a game soon. I’ll be there next weekend, but won’t be able to see the game on Friday night.
