Owners meet today and let's see if they offer anything of substance. Someone had to make the possibility of a work stoppage real and it's really meaningful that it was LeBron.Well that's that then, season over. They can't possibly continue the playoffs without the Lakers and Clippers. Good on them.
Totally agree, one game wouldn't do anything.Owners meet today and let's see if they offer anything of substance. Someone had to make the possibility of a work stoppage real and it's really meaningful that it was LeBron.
If they decide to end the playoffs (which would be bold and appropriate) the players that are worth a TON of $$ should cover the salaries for the players that are going to lose out. Hopefully the Owners can write some big checks make something happen. They should set up a racial equality and justice Lobbying firm or something. Steve Balmer alone is One of the wealthiest people in the world. They need to step up.Totally agree, one game wouldn't do anything.
Yeah if they decide to end it the will be a lot of unpaid cheques due to breach of contract and then also potentially a lockout and a lot of costly lawsuits. It will take forever to sort out. Most owners are old white right wing assholes so I don't see them stepping up in any meaningful way to pay players if the playoff revenue is removed from their pockets. If they decide to end the playoffs (which would be bold and appropriate) the players that are worth a TON of $$ should cover the salaries for the players that are going to lose out. I think that mainly the act of not playing puts pressure on the rich white owners to actually use their political connections and money to get something done in order to change what's happening and allow the players to feel more comfortable going back onto the court to play. I don't think it would affect much change outside of that but those owners have a tonne of money and they can definitely influence policy at least at the local level in many cases. And the owners want money, and they won't get it if the playoffs shut down.I go back and forth on which would have the bigger impact, playing or not playing. In today's media culture, it's very easy to dismiss athletes when they're not on the court. In the end, it's just a game and this is bigger than the game. I just wonder if it's better to have the platform of live sports to continue to get the message out and if anything, amp it up further. I was reminded this morning that the last time there was a protest in the NBA was back in 1961 when Bill Russell and the Celtics refused to play because of racial injustice.
Well, if it were to force the owners hand it wouldn’t be all for nought.I'd imagine for some it's also that they did all this work and have sacrificed their freedom and time away from their families to be in the bubble so it would be a bitter pill to swallow to have to go home and this be all for not.
Crazy, he was a pretty solid player and had a LONG NBA career. He also rocked the headband when no one else was. Those Drexler/Cliff Robinson Blazers teams were really good.
Blazers, UConn star Clifford Robinson dies at 53
Clifford Robinson, who spent 18 seasons in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, Suns, Pistons, Warriors and Nets, has died at the age of 53, UConn confirmed Saturday.www.espn.com
My guy Dame might be my favorite player to watch, with Mitchell Robinson being my purely homer pick as a Knicks fan haha. Westbrook and maybe Jimmy Butler are the only two guys with the Mamba mentality though (RIP Kobe) so I do find both of those guys fun to watch too.Fun game, but Russ is probably my favorite player in the league and it hurt a little bit to watch him struggle down the stretch.
