The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I like all of them, a bunch, just the stones the least. The stones really start to suffer in the eighties though. (As do the Who, as do the Kinks)… so there may be something to that.

The Who are probably the ones I like the least. I love some of their songs, and particularly their singles, but I find some of their albums a slog.

Kinks and Stones is close. Probably prefer the best of the stones and at at their best as an albums band but the best Kinks songs really are hard to beat.

Obviously for me the Beatles are number 1.

The Kinks was surprisingly and refreshingly unpolished and punk-ey! I've only listened to a couple of compilations with The Kinks and Ray Davis (and "Arthur" previously in the thread), before but this album was pretty solid. As I said, Waterloo Sunset is brilliant in every way, but I also fell in love with "Love Me Till The Sun Shines" and "Situation Vacant".

You’re in for a treat when we pull The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society! That one is mega!

Death of a Clown is another favourite of mine on this one and a shout out to Dave for a change!

Are there any Maiden album with even decent production, though? They all sound pretty flat and thin imo. One can only imagine what could’ve happened commercially if they’d got someone like Bob Rock or Mutt Lange to flesh out one of their late 80s albums.
Fair enough, though I'm not really talking about the production, more the guitar tone itself. They had bite on the first couple albums, and then started sounding like thin, fuzzy mud.
