The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Definitely a weird one to pick for him. Never listened to this but I know he has atleast 5 albums more iconic and influential than this. “Rene and Georgette Magritte” is a great song though
Yeah I've never heard this one apart from the song you mentioned, but enjoyed it on first listen. He's always had a great ear for grooves and you can see how Graceland came next.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands

One of my Top 5 bands ever. But I think most everyone here already knows that.

The thing about The Jesus And Mary Chain most folks don't get - they never made the same record twice.

This is a band that tends to be defined by many based on one particular release. While their catalog is very varied and diverse. I get that. Many JAMC records deliver a rather heavy impression that can come across as defining their sound. It's rather the opposite.

I heard Psychocandy in 1985 and it was an epiphany record for me. There was nothing - nothing - out there at the time that sounded like this record. When Darklands hit me in 1987, it was, in many respects, a complete 180 from the debut. At the same time, while much less abrasive, it was a record that connected with me lyrically and emotionally at the same level as Psychocandy. And that's what I feel is the core of this band - their ability to deliver stylistically different songs that are mostly downer anthems but make you feel like a million bucks when you hear them.

Bouncing the @Yer Ol' Uncle D Bat Signal to my JAMC Robin @gafacaode for backup...

POW! BOINK! BAM!

All killer, no filler this week. Only new acquaintance was that Paul Simon which I’ve completely missed somehow despite being a big fan. Not quite Graceland-heights, but not that far behind. Einstürzende Neubaten, Joy Division and The Jesus and Mary Chain make for quite a triple bill here with Darklands and Unknown Pleasures both being among my favorite albums of all time. I discovered Richard & Linda Thompson as late as this Christmas when the title track to this album came on the radio, and have listened intently to them since then. A great album, but Shoot Out the Lights is even better IMO.
