Day 9 - You spent how much?

Radiohead - In Rainbows

So, I like to say that I’ve never spent more than $50 for any one record. That’s not entirely true - even though this technically a box set, it’s also just one album. I believe it was like $80 shipped to the US back in 2007.

As @DeadwaxDude and @Joe Mac have already mentioned in this thread, it sounds amazing and was totally worth it.

I JUST purchased this from my LRS today it was listed at $120 but I had a 20% off stamp card so it ended around $100. I hope all the hype around the 45rpm pressing lives up to the hefty price tag.

I think you’ll be happy. The whole set is top quality. I’ve never seen or heard one of the Mofi one-steps, so outside of those, I can’t think of a better record to spend $100 on.

Day 8 ~ In John I trust

Rubber soul

Hey John remember when you came out of my TV while I was with Lucy, yeah it was great meeting you too. I went with this pick because I didn't see this one played yet, so I decided to go with this classic, Norwegian wood, think for yourself, I'm looking through you, run for your life, all classics that make rubber soul a must own in any Beatles collection. Peace is not something you wish for, it's something you make, something you do, something you are, and something you give away

Day 9 - You spent how much?

I've always tried to live a "buy low" lifestyle but there are exceptions.

Through a large part of the 90's and early 00's I traveled for work and CDs just made more sense. I didn't get rid of my records but I wasn't actively buying that much either. Consequently, when the record bug began to bite again I had some holes to fill that didn't come cheap.

This is a one shot pressing only released on vinyl in Europe. I paid about $100 for a NM copy. Don't feel too bad about it given the current Discogs values -

  • Lowest:
    $166.67
  • Median:
    $216.67
  • Highest:
    $332.22

yep, the most i’ve ever spent on any non-boxset vinyl was for a 2x7” featuring 6 three minute songs.

Disregarding any boxset I guess this is my most valuable record. Must have been ~80 EUR about two years ago. My collection isn't too big because for me nowadays it's quality and/or exclusiveness before quantity (also because of space issues, to be honest ;)

Edit: It's clear vinyl, the cork slipmat does the colouring.

it does. And then some.

It’s nowhere near that. They are absurd, there’s a level of detail and musicality on the Blood on the Tracks that I didn’t think was possible. That said it’s a steep price to pay for that. They’re probably equivalent, to my ears, to the 45 RPM mofis, which is still a high bar considering the original price and how much extra beyond just the vinyl is in the set.

Day 9 - Oh Dear, what have I done?

Radiohead - OK Computer OKNOTOK

So soap box time. My two biggest peeves as a music fan right now are overly expensive and artificially limited editions. I think both are a cancer and are seriously eroding my love for this pursuit. As a result I’ve actually bought more CDs and SACDs this year than at any time since I got a turntable because I can’t justify the extra expense unless the album/artist is really worth it.

Onto this one. It’s beautiful, I love it, it’s a gorgeous package and it’s my second favourite album of all time. Is it worth the €100 I paid for it, nope, no record is (don’t ask what I paid for day 4s audiophile one 😭😭😭). It’s the second most I’ve spend on anything that doesn’t contain multiple albums.

Play an album you spent a lot of money on.

Not sure why I struggled a bit with this one. I've spent a lot of money on plenty of records. Anyway, this one I am not ashamed at all of acquiring for about $50.
