The VPI Turntable Thread

The one thing you will learn about this place is oh my god do not come here if you wish to not buy all the things. This place turned me into a monster.

Yeah you’ve got to be rich, or have some kind of willpower. Alternatively just rob a bank…

Also I think we all eventually learn that everyone is informed but that we have to take the time to make the right decision for ourselves and not just jump because recommendations put us on the spot!

“The CAI 1 Integrated Amp will serve you well and I believe it offers genuine value at $2,000. It looks good, it sounds good and it’s a pleasure to operate. And it may be a source of pride to possess something from one of the most respected names in American audio.” 😈

Yes please let us know. My main thing is I have to go a bit warmer than the 2M Black but don't want to lose the dynamics. The 2M Black combined with the Halo JC3+ means I'm running a wee bit high on the detail side which is totally awesome for about 2/3rds of my collection, but then skews a bit too bright for the other third.
This is where I was, it's those little losses to gain things that I've been getting stuck on. Finding just the right cart is more or less an adventure in getting as close to what you like, but again, how much time, and more importantly, money are you willing to sink into finding that. With that said, I think I've settled on a decision for the cart situation, but what IS happening, is the addition of one little thing that can shave off or add those little dB's in the right place, without breaking the bank.

I know it's looked at as sacrilegious as times, but I'm done hunting and would prefer to get close to the bulls-eye and let this zero it in to my liking.

I'm taking a hard look at this one right now. Can get 25% off. Still bonkers but with a rebuild of only $500. My big concern is, will the company continue long after Ledermann eventually retires. Because if not that's a BIIIG output to then miss out on the cheap rebuild.
How about the VPI Goldy?

“The Goldy retains the tracking prowess and medium output of the AT-OC9 but adds a silkiness and refinement all its own. If you own a VPI deck, it's a slam dunk.”

More and more of the reviewers are recommending EQ. I have a little EQ, I'm nowhere near these kinds of tweaks. I still got a long haul.

You're an evil man. 😁

I would PROBABLY go Shyla if I was going to go that route simply because I'm interested in the ART9 and as far as I can tell it's basically the same cart with some small changes. I think the Goldy may be a bit of a lateral step from the 2M Black. Maybe... my only reticence with AT or VPI carts is I'm pretty sure the replacement cost is almost full price, I can't do that every two years.

Retip with VAS down the block from VPI for around US$300.

What is the point of diminishing returns for cartridges? I sure it varies by person. The most expensive one I ever have purchased is the Hana ML (at a BIG discount) but at $1200 it certaintly does not sound twice as good as the $750 SL.

Classic 3 owners, my kids unboxed the kit today since I'm not back until late tonight. They couldn't find the power cord. I've since confirmed the seller made an honest mistake and left it plugged into his wall when packing for shipping. He's willing to account for a replacement, or at least partially if I take this opportunity to upgrade the cord (for whatever reason).

What would you do, as I wanted him to overnight it and he likely would.. but his proposal to account for it financially might also make sense.

What specific cord(s) would you most recommend?
