If they’re fine with the 25 Watts from the Luxman the 40ish Watts from the 300 in UL or 25 in Triode with KT88s is going to be absolutely fine. And honestly unless you’re running like Maggies the EVO 300 is the sweet spot in the line for me. Same 6 input tubes and same enormous transformers as the 400 and less cost in replacement tubes when rolling/they’re done.
 
I appreciate the feedback on that. Dealer said the same, just didn’t have a 300 for me to test. My room is also very small, so I’m not cranking it in here.

Not sure where this will go honestly. Not sure that change for change sake is my best bet, but… the itch is real.

It’s the advice I got off the dealer and people on here at the time too and it was totally the right call for me, don’t feel that I’m missing out anything with the 300, it’s still got plenty more to give than im asking if it.

I guess you’ll just make the most of the demo and if the itch is still there when it’s over, then you’ve a decision to make 😂

PS: Do try and few nights solely in triode though, you won’t regret it!
 
Will absolutely try a couple nights with the green light on! Do you prefer that all around? Or is there certain music that you find it works better for you?
 
On another note I read some more about the new PL phono stage on the Facebook fan page from someone who has trialled a demo one…

It has 12 tubes!

On top the two 5AR4 rectifiers and two EL34. Also up there 4 12AX7 for the MM stage. Apparently around the back is a panel that comes off revealing 4 ECC88 for the MC stage. All of the 12AX7 and ECC88 have those black covers to block something or other.

I prefer it all around most of the time. But it definitely suits folk music and accoustic singer songwriter stuff and particularly very good female vocialists and pianos.

The ultra linear tends to suit more uptempo music and in particular likes electronic or more uptempo rock. Neither of those sounds bad in triode to be honest but the more laid back feel can take a little bit of something away.

It’s not out for sale yet but pictures were leaked online earlier in the year from a show and there was a buzz about it because a guy in the Netherlands on the PL fan page shared a pic and hinted it’s not far off and that he’d been given a trial of an early demo unit.

Ya, a whole bunch of info out there. Plan is to keep my eye open on the used market as well. There is a Torii Jr close to me right now for a decent price that could hold me over. Thinking about it.

I believe there are a few people on the list who have gotten used gear to 'hold them over'. I got my ZP3 from a guy who had done just that, when he got his new pre, he put the used one up for sale. I think I'm the 3rd owner on that one now. I'm still thinking about getting on the list, but I'm very content with what I've got.

You can also post a 'wanted' post in the classifieds over there. Use caution and common sense, I would only deal with someone who has an established post count. Not that the classified are ripe with scams, but with the demand some unscrupulous jag offs do exist.

One other note, any used Decware gear can be sent back for a warranty transfer, you get new tubes and any potential upgrades. There is a fee that depends on what the unit is. I haven't done this.

Thanks for all of this information! I was looking into the warranty information as I would want to do that when I sell it on to someone else once the Torii arrives in 2027. 😂
 
Picking up the Torii Jr in the morning.. room is a mess at the moment moving things around.. going to bias it when I get it home and give it a listen with the tubes included in the purchase. Im prepared to buy a new tube compliment if need be. Also going to reach out to Decware about sending it in to do a warranty refresh. Assuming it operates as the seller has represented, i'll likely wait to do this until the Torii MKV is ready.. which may be a couple/few years..

Wish the Heresy's had arrived.. i'm hoping next week...
