Went to see Astrid Sonne for an early show on Friday. Third show of 2025, but first time posting in this thread.
Jasmine Wood
Ambient, experimental artist originally from Portland, OR. She lives overseas in Dublin now, but is here for a few weeks and supported Astrid on this tour. Lots of synth loops, delayed guitar, and drawn out vocals (Grouper, Julianna Barwick, etc.). Enjoyable! Added her to my "to listen" list given that she is a localish musician.

Astrid Sonne
I've been wanting to see Astrid since I came back around late in 2024 on the short but resonant
Great Doubt, one of my top5 from last year. The experimentally arpeggiated instrumentation, dreamy vocals, variety of sounds, and intimate atmosphere had me repeating the album frequently in the waning months of the year.
Astrid and her tour partner were played violin and cello respectively, with Astrid providing vocals and using the mixer to allow for segueing of songs with a few breaks for audience applause. The setlist was primarily the entirety of
Great Doubt with an unreleased song in the middle and lengthened string arrangements to allow each song to shine in a slightly different context.
Fantastic! Astrid's voice works great in a 300cap venue as expected, and the string arrangements paired well with the rest of the presentation. I would love to see her again, and I think that will be possible with how much
Great Doubt has gotten traction in the underground circuit; the record is currently on its 5th repressing!!

Set opener "Do You Wanna" here...someone nearly passed out in the middle of the concert room as Astrid shows concern near the end here:
Also this medley of songs near the end of the set, including "Give My All," one of my favorite songs from last year.
Post-Show
Waited in merch line for ~25min to get a signature for my
Great Doubt sleeve I brought from home. It was an unorganized mess to get there for the first five minutes until staff had us in a queue. Upon my turn, Astrid used her provided silver pen to ink the jacket and provided personalization. She spoke some words of thanks for attending. I put the jacket back in my bag, sat down at a random chair to rest for a few minutes, then took the jacket back out to glance at the signature...and saw that it was smudged to the point where I couldn't even make out what was written initially.
Dissatisfied, I headed to the back of the line and waited another ~15min to get a re-signed signature. I apologized when I got back to the front, which she reassured wasn't a problem as there was no one before me in the line on this second go-around when I asked

All of the merch was gone by the second time I went to the front (vinyl, double CDs, tees). I also asked her about Japan tour from three weeks ago, which she was happy to share of some of her highlights from her first visit there. Her favorite city on tour was Kanazawa (金沢), which I am in total agreement with. Her shows were all sold out there, and she noted that the Japanese crowds were incredibly polite and shy to approach her merch table after shows. Apt question as I will be heading out on vacation tomorrow.

Headed to work directly after. Favorite show of the first three I have seen this year.
