Upcoming/Recent Shows

Louisville has an awesome new live venue. I received some free tickets for the soft opening of the Old Forester Paristown Hall. It really is quite impressive.

Kingfish played a killer set, he's a 20 year old blues musician who deserves attention.

Villa Mure is a local band that was also great.

Stoked for this venue. Wu Tang and Sleater Kinney in the fall.

Yeah, it's a really cool place, and huge! The sound quality was great, and even better if you're towards the back center. I'm going to see Interpol & Sleater Kinney for sure. Wu Tang is pricey, but I'm sure they'll be worth it. This place will certainly bring in more mid to high profile artists. And with the new outdoor soccer stadium, there should be more larger outdoor shows as well. Great times for music in Louisville!

Been crazy broke lately on-top of a hell journey from getting my wisdom teeth extracted; so I haven't been able to make it out to a show in months...

BUT! Tomorrow they are doing an amazing late night show after Essence Fest. Stacked line-up.

This is gonna be at Ace Hotel which some of you may remember from the line of exclusives that VMP did for them (Meters, Sister Gertrude Morgan, + that other one.) These guys always put on really great shows, and they are typically based around some concept or idea, rather then just bringing in bands to do their normal sets.

Tomorrow night's line up is all focused around amazing keyboard players. Consisting of,

Aaron Abernathy (Aaron Abernathy and the Nat Turner Band, Piano Player for Black Milk)

Ron Avant (Free Nationals, Piano Player for Anderson Paak)

Myla Bocage (CoolNasty, Betty Who, Lauren Jauregui)

RC Williams (RC and the Gritz, Piano Player for Erykah Badu)

And the local group Cool Nasty will be presiding over the events.

Should be an awesome night of funky keys, and a much needed respite from my depressing ass life lately.

Here's a video of Cool Nasty tearing it up,

@Lee Newman @Mr Moore check them dudes out!

I saw Tyler Ramsey (formerly of Band of Horses) and Carl Broemel (currently of My Morning Jacket) kick off their duo tour in Kansas City. They played a little room that holds about 50 people and just went back and forth playing their solo tunes. It was fantastic.

First post for me. Review of Ministry gig from last week @swg3 Glasgow.

Firstly, great venue. Particularly for those of us commuting from the east. Easy to park. Simple to get in. Massive hall. Huge bar. Probably get about 1000 in there? I reckon it was full enough to seem busy, but not full enough that it was a pain in the tits. Easy to get through the crowd is what I’m saying 🤝

First time since I was a teen I’ve been to a gig on my own. Was fine, other than having nobody to compare notes with afterwards. Things have changed for me since I last gigged on my own, back then I slept rough on the streets of Nottingham without a care in the world. This time I entered the pit with one hand on my phone, and concerns that my wallet, car key, house key and watch were all secure in my cargo pocket. Still, I wasn’t missing out going ‘up front’.

I left Edinburgh late so missed 3teeth, which is a shame but I was there with one track among many classics in my mind I was there for Thieves.

The first time I ever heard Thieves was blasted over the PA at a Megadeth concert in the early 90’s. I’d never heard anything like it. Heavy, but with that industrial groove, it was a song that opened up new avenues in my mind.

First half of the set was all new stuff. It was good actually, Wargasm and Amerikkka being the highlights. Great sound and the band were very tight, with ol Buck Satan himself, Al Jourgensen leading the behind an elaborate mic stand playing harmonica guitars and shrieking vox . Silhouette wise he looks like the guy I remember. Up close, you sense a bit of mileage :haha: but what a performer.

Anyway, I’d googled the set list so new what was to come. Second half of the set was all of the classics. So, I buttoned down my wallet and keys, grasped my phone and headed up front. The Missing... ah yeah, I’d forgotten how good they were. Driving focussed techno energy with raucous guitars and Al howling over the top. Stigmata fuuuuccckkk what a tune. Then turning to my left, a hirsute bearded man in full Jesus robes and a crown of thorns made his way to the front. Ding a ding dang, my dang a long ling long, it was Jesus Christ himself carrying a home made spanner about to get fired into the mosh pit. Hands down the first time I’ve seen Jesus crowd surf.

Then Thieves. ffffffFFFFFFFUuuucccckkkkk. Just outstanding.

It was everything I wanted it to be. And the crowd went bezerk. Or more bezerk. Bezerkerer.

I may have the order slightly awry but perhaps there was another track before they wound things up with an atmospheric old Revco song ‘No Devotion’.

Gig done - the band taking the cheers of the crowd then the doors opened and I was back in the car within 5 mins :haha:

The worst thing about a gig on your jack is that you’ve nobody to compare notes with on the way home. Nor anybody to talk to about the quite ridiculous detour to the M8 from Charring Cross. What the fuck Glasgow :haha:

So I went and saw Joel Ross and his band at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club in Soho, London last night. Firstly, this might be one of my new favourite venues for jazz music, it has a proper Jazz club vibe, with low black ceilings, warm but low lighting, and a really intimate vibe. Love it.

The music was utterly brilliant and I really want as many people to know about this group as possible (sorry if you see this post on a few threads). They played for about 2 hours total with a 30min break in-between. And they realllly played , non-stop with no break between songs. They all played their asses off and I just want to give a special mention to the drummer Jeremy Dutton, sweet lord that guy can play!

Heres a few pics from last night, and I also took a leaf out of @Yer Ol' Uncle D's book and recorded the audio for about half the show (nothing fancy, just iPhone voice recorder). I listened to the playback this morning and its surprisingly good (we were sat at the very front so was worried about it being overpowering). Check out their new album, Kingmaker (on Blue Note), its killer.

Day 1 of Forecastle, Louisville.

Spazz Cardigan was fun. He said he just signed a record deal, so look out maybe?

With a "random" guest drummer and bass from the band White Reaper. Some other guy had a sign wanting his wife to play the tambourine, but not tonight.

Tomorrow has Anderson .Paak but otherwise light day. Sunday will be better for me.
