Vinyl Me Please Anthology

FWIW, and I realise that may not be much, but I do recall from storf's AMA that there would be zero crossover with the BN80 releases. Now BN81? That's a different story.
That is my hope...but Storf also said that only VMP members who signed up for the link to the preorder for Anthology would receive it and within minutes, the link was on a billboard article about VMP.

Honestly the fact that this box is probably going to be pretty valuable is one of the few things keeping me from demanding a refund or something stupid like that. Let's be real, these are really nice records that haven't been pressed in a long time, so I suspect the second hand market for them is going to be pretty good. Not that I plan on selling, but just knowing they're worth something and I could eases some of the pain a little bit. If they go ahead and repress all these titles, though...

I know people are rightfully miffed about how most of this was rolled out. But if they actually deliver the replacements on Shorter and Dexter, I'll mostly be a happy camper. I bought Anthology because of a few of the reasons you mentioned:

*Albums that haven't been repressed in a very long time or have never been pressed (the Ambrose record)

*I suspected the sound quality would be great based on previous VMP x BN pressings and the specs they said about the remaster with RTI + Kevin Gray

At the end of the day, I got 6 albums that I really like and cannot find in good condition for the price I paid. The sound quality is on par with Music Matters for me. The other stuff, like the "community experience" was a total whiff, but I sort of expected that from the beginning and it was never a major factor in me buying this product. I sort of figured they wouldn't get that aspect of it right. So while this whole thing didn't turn out as they billed it when they first launched it, I don't entirely regret purchasing it. I whole-heartedly understand why people have been upset and if I went into it expecting to learn more about the history of Blue Note and jazz in general, or if I purchased this as more of an intro into jazz music, I would be super disappointed.

With that said, I fully expect to sit the next one out and future ones at that unless the price drops and it's a label I love and they iron out the kinks.

So, you and @Enoch are both right.
Probably a good point. I would say there aren't enough lower/mid-level employees to better catch things, I can't comment if that is because there are too many in the high-level positions, so maybe my actual thought is there are the right number of people in the needed places

I agree, MikeH. If you look at just the quality of the sound, it's fantastic. (And virtually no one has complained about it.) The rest of it was a first rate shit show. The funny thing is, if VMP decides to do another anthology, I'll be one of the first to buy it.
See...I think I'm out on the next one unless it's something insane. Blue Note was the big draw for me here and I don't see them doing another Blue Note one right after this. There aren't a ton of Anthologies I would sign up for again especially at that price point.

I would assume each one will have a unique price point

Yeah I agree with all this too. I've been by turns really pissed and really excited through this whole "experience." But at the end of the day, I have six really nice sounding records and a brand new love and excitement for jazz. I haven't gotten a product in a long time that's really excited me for a genre of music like this anthology has, almost in spite of VMP's absurdly non-existent "education". I wish they had delivered on some promises and rolled everything out more smoothly, but once the replacement records/sleeves arrive, I'll be happy.

I also agree about future anthologies and I think that if I did another one, I'll go into it with more reasonable expectations. The promise of "extras" isn't going to sell me on something. I'm going to buy in to future anthologies because I want the music, period.

I'd sign up for Chess, Stax or many others. I like jazz, but other than the Resonance Records RSD releases and the classics (Blue Trane, Bitch's Brew,) I tend to not pick up jazz releases so this was a nice addition. Agreed on the cost, though. The price point was about $20 to $30 higher than it should have been. Considering the Ambrose was 2xLP and the box set was $240 it comes out to about $34 an LP. Tone Poet's releases are going for around $4 less. Thinking they could charge that much more for what amounted to nothing is annoying.

The $34 per album didn't bother me a ton to be honest. I was in it for the album selections more than comparing it to the Tone Poet pricing. If these end up on Tone Poet, I'll be disappointed but Storf said none would cross over to BN80 or Tone Poet at least for now. But as of now, the only thing I can compare it to price-wise is other pressings of these specific albums. And they are not easy to find in good shape. I've hunted for a good pressing of Schizophrenia for quite some time and even $50 is a bargain for one in good shape.

BTW, that Ambrose is hands down my favorite album from the box. I don't want to say that it made the whole experience worth it, but it might have. It's something I plan on listening to a lot. It's definitely not a $78 album, but it's a really good album.

Guys, c'mon, you can be ok with the prices but implying that $78 would be reasonable for the Ambrose because it is a 2xLP is nutty.
Oh didn't even realize that was what was being done there hah. And it was $68 if you calculated it that way, not $78. Price per album netted out to about $38 per album which I am still okay with. Still less than most Music Matters pressings and I think these are very comparable sound-wise.

Right. $78 is unreasonable, but if they'd price pointed at $30 an album or $60 for Ambrose, that'd be fair. I've picked up 2xLPs first time jazz LPs for that price before for Wes Montomgery and Bill Evans sets. It's a bit steep, but very close to being reasonable.

I guess I'm cheap but even Music Matters was never that much for their 2x45s until they went nuts with price gouging. I struggle a lot with more than $40 or $50.

Yeah $55-$60 is a pricey but in line with other prestige labels double album. Music Matters sound great but I hate that they seem to have decided when stock gets low the release can all of a sudden start costing $75-$100.
