Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Look, I mean clearly this is vastly overpriced but I literally own zero Dead albums and if these are AP quality (which they hopefully should be, Bellman QRP blah blah blah) then I can deal with paying... uh...

...in my defense...

Same reason I got it.

I thought you were in the process of tracking down all the GD Mo-Fi’s and Rhino’s in Canada? You give up? Quitter.

@Mather did you look at this box at all by chance?

Also saw a bunch of Canadian sellers on cogs for those rhino releases
I did see that one but I only wanted Mars and Allah, so I got the Mofi's. I could have gotten Workingman and a couple others but the good live albums from Rhino were all much more expensive.

Also I kinda just wanted it...

What are your guys thoughts on what would be considered essential albums in a Herbie Hancock anthology.

I assume they're not doing any that would have been reissued by them or Blue Note recently, or the major ones that have been on the MM/AP audiophile series or RSD releases.

So what's left really? Anything out of print or hard to come by?

Empyrean Isles would be great. I know it had a BN75 but those suck and the MM is long sold out. I was going to say My Point of View but looks like that's getting the Tone Poet treatment. Thrust could use an AAA repress. Maybe Sextant?

Honestly I don't see how you could do a decent Herbie Box without doubling up on quite a few of those releases.

Monster is another one that I don't think has had a release in awhile, but as @Mather said, I don't see them only going with stuff that hasn't been reissued recently because a lot of his important albums have gotten reissued.

I'll stick with most of my original guesses:

Empyrean Isles (Blue Note Leader)
Live at the Plugged Nickel (Miles' 2nd Quintet)
Sextant (Jazz-Funk Fusion)
Man-Child (More Jazz-Funk Fusion)
VSOP (VSOP)
Future Shock (80s Herbie)
Dis is Da Drum (90s Herbie)
Gershwin's World (Elder Statesman Herbie)

Monster is also like, one of his absolute worst albums. I'd hate to waste one of the LPs on something like that or Lite Me Up.

I do have a soft spot for Sunlight, though. Maybe that and/or Future Shock would be enough to cover that part of his career.

Agreed. It's why I don't think they will always go with "not recently reissued". @TCell 's list is pretty solid IMO.
