Who was going for the boRxsEt of the DeEad?
I have quite a few Classic 200g titles, including all but one Zep. Have never had to return one. Classic were THE pioneers of audiophile vinyl when no one else was in the game or cared to be. In a sense, they carried the risk in the vinyl resurrection.True but I’d be worried about the records anyway. Especially with the issues Classic Records had with 200g pressings! Although the records I have from them are generally without problems.
I feel like there are a bunch of good pressings of this one and glad to hear this is one of them. People have said the VMP ones are great as well when you get a good copy. I don’t know that the VMP ones are revelatory at allNot to threadshit, but I am spinning my 50th Anniversary "American Reality" RW&B splatter American Beauty for the first time tonight and it sounds pretty great. I have never owned this album in any format, however, so I have nothing to compare. I am enjoying the music, however. And the splatter is one of the best in my collection. Really well done.
My VMP of American Beauty sounds really good but definitely comes second to the MOFI 45rpm which isn’t really surprising. The sound staging and detail is just on another level and the bass isn’t there on the VMP.I feel like there are a bunch of good pressings of this one and glad to hear this is one of them. Agree, the MoFi 45s are top of the heap for AB and WD. The new 2020 VMP and Dead.net splatter versions are very good, but also different. The splatter is sourced from the Plangent hi-res and has a very defined, hi-res clean sound while the new AAA VMP press has a larger soundstage and spaciousness that I find is often lost in digitally sourced vinyl. The MoFi 45 is the best of both worlds and then some...My VMP of American Beauty sounds really good but definitely comes second to the MOFI 45rpm which isn’t really surprising. Good luck! Hopefully you don’t need it though.I'm going through my set to see if the records have any issues.
As others have had, I've had a couple inner sleeves be bent to where the record is exposed. I haven't looked at or played every record except for Workingman's Dead and it is perfect.
American Beauty is next up.

I figured I should check it and add any records to the list of things - along with a new box - all in one email with them. I expect I have till Monday at the earliest to hear from them.
If ya have any that are edge warp and NOT scratched that you get replacement records for...let me know as I may be interested in buying them from yaReceived my anthology box on Friday, spent Friday evening cleaning on my ultrasonic cleaner and most of the day yesterday and this morning listening. Very pleased with this set, but I will need 6 replacement records. Most are due to edge warps, but I have a few sides that are nearly unlistenable due to scratches from the hurried packaging and wrinkled inner sleeves / exposure to the outer sleeve.
I talk a lot of shit about VMP but I do agree that the packaging and quality of the pressings (when you get clean, non-warped ones) really is great on the two I have. If the price point was lower on them, I'd definitely be able to recommend them more to people.I took a quick look through the box and they look all good on visual inspection. Only a couple of the sleeves were crumpled in to the point where the records were exposes, and it was only slightly.
Hopefully Im one of the lucky ones since I want to listen along with the podcasts for the whole experience.
Also, what a beautiful package. Ive said it before and Ill say if again, Anthology is maybe the best thing they do, even if theyre a bit pricey.
Regardless of the releases everyone decided to go with, I am just happy a bunch more people were inspired to pick up Grateful Dead albums. They a really fun band to dive into and I am happy to have more forum members along for the ride. Also, I know they have some podcasts attached to the VMP Box but if you’re looking for more insight I can’t recommend Long Strange Trip Amazon documentary series enough. A really great primer to understanding the band’s dynamic and place in history.
