Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Just finished Wake the Flood and on to Terrapin Station.

WTF had slightly, like not worth commenting on, off centered labels and the edge wasn't cut cleanly so it gives it the slightest warp that's withing acceptable IMO. Sounded great.

Terrapin has similar, mm off labels and a few songs in sounds fantastic.

Regardless of the releases everyone decided to go with, I am just happy a bunch more people were inspired to pick up Grateful Dead albums. They are really fun band to dive into and I am happy to have more forum members along for the ride. Also, I know they have some podcasts attached to the VMP Box but if you’re looking for more insight I can’t recommend Long Strange Trip Amazon documentary series enough. A really great primer to understanding the band’s dynamic and place in history.

Along with the Day of the Dead covers set; this doc really got me into the Dead back when it came out. Been thinking about watching it again cause it’s really great

This Anthology was wildly priced... but it's aging kinda decently.

Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, Live/Dead, and Wake of the Flood MoFi's are roughly $100 bucks a piece(or more I didn't dig that deep just grabbed the first pricing I saw) on discogs at the moment. AP Terrapin Station is also about $100 bucks. Put Without a Net on top of it and you're way over $450.

I understand these aren't MoFi pressings in the Anthology box.... but if the quality is anywhere near the MoFi's then you're doing alright.

Workingman's and American Beauty MoFi's are still available on the Music Direct site (currently on backorder but they are NOT out of print and you will get them if you place an order on backordered MoFi stuff through them). I believe they are $50 each. Some of the others are more expensive but for $450, you can make your own starter kit of similar GD records at equal or better quality for cheaper. If you need Without a Net, then sure--those are around $125+ but it hardly seems like a must-have Dead record.

The Anthology got me to explore the Dead more which I'm grateful for (eh eh see what I did there??) but you could get way more bang for your buck not through the Anthology. I am glad the people who bought it are mostly enjoying it though!

It’s been mentioned here many times already but the Anthology set is neither a Dead starter kit nor a set for your average Deadhead. The bang for your buck on this set is fairly limited. I am sure it’s a nice set (as long as the QC gets you a good copy) but there is a reason they didn’t sell too many of these.
