I haven't listened to the 2nd podcast yet and I liked the first one, but I don't recall it specifically being related to the whole anthology experience so I'm not sure it entirely matters. The biggest thing I got from ep 1 is that Don Was seems like a seriously cool dude who loves Blue Note.

I honestly think it's the Facebook format. Fbook is really good with images. People loooove pictures and Facebook is really designed around promoting pictures as much as possible. That inevitably leads to long feeds of now playing and stuff (I'm not going to pretend I'm not guilty of posting a new playing picture in that group). I think the forum format is just so so much better. They obviously know how to host and moderate a forum, so why not have a pw protected forum hosted for each anthology with different threads? Some for now playing pics, some for discussing theory, etc etc. I have no clue why they're insistent on using Facebook unless it's to force everyone into using their real names? It's just not a good platform for discussion.

The problem is that they are using FB, which is notorious for having their algorithm that shows things in a scattershot order and makes it hard to see content you actually want. If they had used a message board or just about anything that wasn't FB, it would be easier to isolate things like post after post from the same 1 or 2 people of jazz records without any actual discussion content.

Why should he have to hit him up direct? Why not just like, post publicly about this stupid mistake what everyone's annoyed over? This whole weird 1-on-1 dealing with this issue is just bothering me even more.

edit to add, wrt to the barcode thing, there are barcodes on the Tone Poet releases as well. So that might've actually been a BN requirement. Unfortunately since they haven't actually said jack all about this, we're just speculating.

I wanted to ask about the barcode and all changes to the new releases to find out (also the cover controversy as well)

Yeah of all things so far, the barcodes are very low priority for me. They don’t bother me much and yeah they probably are a requirement from BN now.

I feel like the barcode issue and the foil stamping dilute the issue. Barcodes are used on lots of Blue Note reissues and don't prevent the original cover and liner notes from being reproduced. I feel like the jacket being reprinted due to the wrong information being printed and the liner notes deleted which breaks from every Blue Note album basically in history should be the focus.

Edit: not that I'm saying anyone's concerns aren't valid. I just think if we focus on this one problem there is the best chance of getting a good resolution on it.

The records themselves sound really great. Despite the other stupidity you got that to look forward to!
