Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Yeah in the thread someone said that they paid $60 Canadian in duty... someone also said that with a box that big and heavy they can't imagine what the fees would be so as with everything Reddit I take it with a grain of salt
I am more inclined to believe the $60CAD comment, it's a weird thing to lie about for clout. That said, yeah...that seals that then.
If anything that comes to me vinyl related has duties then that's the last time I'm doing that thing.

I would hope they'd be upfront this time around and not charge you extra only to say oops, sorry, here's some credit!!

Well they wouldn't charge you. Whomever is delivering would just hold your package hostage until you paid for it.
I'm sure lots of people who don't regularly check their email will be in for quite the surprise when they try and get their anthologies.

They do need an alert popup before you hit order for international peeps that you're likely to be charged another arm to go along with the arm and the leg they're already charging you.

$45 for the taxes, $40 for the brokerage fee and a $20-40 fee for having to collect the taxes would be my estimate.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I'd also be absolutely fucking livid getting dinged with even half of that in charges after-the-fact and told "oh here's a little bit of credit to make up for fucking you over." Fuck the fuck that.

So the only anthology I bought they charged extra to cover the shipping/duty and specifically said so, it seems like they did this for Willie and then changed their policy and offered credit instead of a refund, I'd ask for the money to help cover the cost!

Looks like they at least changed/updated their FAQ:

So, just to confirm....this is not something they've HAD to do, this is something they CHOSE to do and spring it on people that have already paid an absurd amount of money? That about right?

New Instagram post features a song from this album. I'd expect it'll be in the anthology.

Well, generally customs I a thing that your ( importing) country slaps on imported stuff, but vmp for anthologies charged extra shipping for intl customers and included the customs which they prepaid for you, they obviously do not do this anymore. But the amount of customs is not vmps decision. Since Germany waved the low limit of about 20€ which let 1-2 records normally pass, i have to pay 19% vat on every shipment from outside the EU. What makes this terrible for me is the handling fee which dhl slaps on is a minimum of 6€.so for my last couple of secretly society titles I paid 1.25 vat and 6€ fees which had me cancel that sub. Amazon.com normally calculates customs and vat, charges you and prepays for you, which at least saves you from the dhl blackmail

Yeah, I know they don't decide how MUCH was charged. I'm more clarifying that they changed this up, still charged the usual shipping costs for anthologies and when all their international orders were placed THEN they decided to spring this little surprise as a treat.

So ghetto records anthology.
The description they gave fits ohn Joe Bataan and ghetto records

See Joe Bataan - Wikipedia

Edit: was quoting @hayema7 on this but messed up the format
Edit2: Joe Bataan also co-founded salsoul , so maybe salsol anthology

If it was Ghetto records, they might reissue every single album on the label haha. They haven't released a ton as far as I can tell.

I feel like Salsoul is probably more likely. Connects to Philly International too.

The Cayres had poached artist Joe Bataan from the competing Fania label for their Mericana roster. Bataan named his 1973 Mericana debut Salsoul, meaning a blend of Latin/salsa and soul music. The name, in turn, inspired Mericana’s ambitious owners, who launched an entire Salsoul label with Bataan’s CBS-distributed Afrofilipino in 1975.

this is the classic VMP move. Give someone store credit so they have to spend more money there, and the credit actually costs them a fraction of what the full refund would.

I think you are right, but I think the track that was recognized from the instagram video was from a ghetto records release, but salsoul seems more likely or it is a story of Joe Bataan

I'd be more likely to get it if it's an anthology so that I'd get a wider representation of the genre. I don't think I'd want that much Bataan despite liking it ok.

With all this outside shit to deal with I sat down at dinner and listened to the Papo Felix meets Ray Rodriguez and damn.... This is going to be tough to pass if all the records are like this!!!

The only saving grace is that it involves Now Again so they'll totally (hopefully) release these themselves down the road...

Now-Again can’t resist making the extra bucks so I’m sure it will be broken out

Looks like they are doing it already for the tribe anthology while selling the last copies of that for 450$
Vinyl Me, Please’s copies are sold out. We are selling some of the copies Now-Again purchased at Rappcats now. We are also rolling out the individual albums as they come in from the pressing plant.
