Vinyl Me Please Anthology

It's a bummer really, because there are almost 500 people in there who are all pretty interested in the same very specific thing

It's really strange because people should be actively engaged, and I'm not entirely sure its all their fault. It reminds me of grad school or professional developments at work. Nobody wants to contribute to a discussion.

That being said they could do a lot more. If it keeps up this way I'll have not learned anything new about Blue Note through this experience. Yea I have six albums, one of which I have hear before, but that is it. Maybe the book will help out. I've listened to BN since high school, but it wouldn't have take much to increase my knowledge of the label.

That being said, What's everybody think of that Lou album? Man that thing cooks. there are some great moments that I plan on posting about later today.

How does everyone feel about the people who tend to post quite a lot of pictures of jazz albums without any actual content about them on the FB group? I'm personally torn on it. I belong to a FB group called Jazz Vinyl Lovers run by Ken Micallef (who writes for various places such as Stereophile and the like, and has a great Youtube channel) where the only real objective is posting jazz vinyl album covers, but it tends to be full of great people who add info to their posts and create interesting discussion. So, in that case I have to say I'm in favor of it. On the Anthology FB group, I'm not sure it provides a good function most of the time, but it's not something I feel too strongly about. What made me actually post about it now is that I confirmed something I've been suspecting for a long time: that there is one user who frequently posts CD covers that he intentionally "disguises" so that it isn't readily apparent that's what they are. I've taken note of his posts that often seem to be a CD booklet taken out of the jewel case and cropped closely so that the telltale edges of the booklet are cut off, allowing it to be mistaken for possibly a vinyl album cover. Does this cross the line? Is this just very odd behavior? Why would someone frequently post CD covers on a FB group that is ostensibly a journey of learning about jazz and Blue Note in particular? What is the point?

I hate it. That group was a bunch of cloistered annoying middle aged dudes trying to one up each other with what they'd blown that month's paycheck on. I've completely deleted Facebook because I find it an annoying platform for similar reasons, but if I hadn't I would have left the group by now. It's annoying that VMP doesn't have a Facebook alternative way to view the AMA, though. (And something they need to revise going forward.) I got no substance out of it and it feels shady that VMP advertised it as a place you could learn or grow.

You want an AMA? We'll have an AMA with Mark de Clive-Lowe just here on Monday! Yes I keep promoting the N&G AOTM :p

I mean before the forum was nuked, Storf said there would be lots of articles run in conjunction with the Woodstock box, have there been any? And he is still actively soliciting articles on Twitter. VMP is complete amateur hour.

In fairness, who wants to write about Woodstock in a positive light? It was basically the inception of music capitalism. While that angle would be fun to write about, that's not going to help VMP sell expensive box sets.

I feel like those box sets will sit around for all of eternity (or at least hope so). Pressing 1,000 of that is insane, especially if the sound quality isn’t that great in the first place. I wonder how many they’ve actually sold?

I'm pretty sure he prefers catching flights out of Burbank as opposed to LAX whenever possible. Hopefully he will confirm on the AMA.
Yeah I mean I think the question here really is does he prefer the I-5 straight shot to Burbank or are we talking the 170 to Ventura? This is important shit...

The thing is, VMP's Woodstock box looked to just be a reshuffling of everything that was in the 25th anniversary box. If they'd done some type of pressing of unrelreased stuff like Rhino did, I'd have jumped on it.
