I get where you are coming from and I agree if they blame this box not selling the same as blue note on it being female artists it will be ridiculous.
However, Storf seemed to genuinely lament the fact that Nina Simone not only never sold out, but that he got angry emails about it being chosen, and it is without question an essential in my opinion, unlike some sold out classics. So, I don't think observations that records by women didn't sell as well were necessarily misconstruing anything.
I may be alone in this opinion, but the tables have kind of turned in this respect. We, the small vocal minority, are always called out for our opinions and "heated" comments, but when these albums don't sell as VMP expects, it's on their "core" user base, the majority that doesn't say anything, because in my opinion the vocal minority has a much more expansive enjoyment and understanding of music and all it's facets, male, female or otherwise. So when recent actions seem to indicate VMP going out of the way to stifle the vocal minority for fear of negative influence, wouldn't it stand to reason that we could sway it the opposite way as well?
But no, let's not listen to the vocal minority, we know not what we speak of. It's been mentioned in this thread already, and even though it hasn't sold out yet, if it sells in a relative amount of time there will be a Anthology III, IV and so on, as long as they have the base to support 1000 units sold, errors and all, there is no reason to stop producing them. Remember VMP took that turn into a "business" model first and foremost, so Its now more than ever only about the bottom line. Don't kid yourself into thinking it's anything but.
Both the BN and WM Anthology are fantastic ideas, I just can't support the company regardless of what I may miss out on, but there are plenty who do and that's fine. And for those, I always hope there are minimal issues if any.
