Vinyl Me Please Classics

it makes sense when you consider his best album just was reissued AAA several times recently, and they put another of his albums in the VMP Stax Anthology.
You say that like this is his third best. I think Albert King is great, but I think this is a pick for people who want more than 5 King albums in their collection and that ain't me with my budget at the moment.

The only recent mono reissue of BUABS was a RSD release limited to 2250 and is already out of print, so I think a lot more people, including myself, would be happier with that than you think. I am not interested in a stereo version. I am not surprised they didn't do it, though.

I'm really happy that people dig this pick, and King, but I've got to sit this one out. Personally I'm just a little bummed they didn't pick one I'd be more excited about, but I'll live!

There was a Speakers Corner reissue of BUABS too recently . After his obvious masterpiece LP there is no obvious pecking order for his must have albums.... but I will say that Albert King and Stax’s pre-1970 sound is THE peak sound for both . This represents his classic recorded sound IMo. And pass on a AAA VMP classics pick at your own risk, most end up regretting it. (Except Patrice rushen)

King like most Blues men from that era was single-driven not LP driven for a long time.

I mean I get not doing BUABS. But to do a cover album is strange. Again, I'm down for it just weird they didn't do a live album or something of his own work.

What does it matter if it happens to be a cover album if it’s good? What if they did Miles Davis’ porgy and Bess? Plenty of blues albums that are 100% covers anyway, this is just a “tribute” album so I guess people have a stigma towards it

As I said, I don't want a stereo cut. I'd rather hold out for a mono eventually.

I'd have been happy if they did a good comp for exactly the reasons you mention. Or Years Gone By.

I'm definitely going to pick this up but I'm grateful for the conversation here around it the past few days. I haven't much exposure to King and 'King Does The King's Things' was an enjoyable listen but I followed it up with 'I Wanna Get Funky' from a post earlier and that really hit home. Incredible album. Of the two that's the one that has given me the kick to explore more of his music. Will still happily swap to KDTKT from R&HH when it pops up because it's a good record but I am 100% going to be hunting down a copy of IWGF and will be diving back into the recommendations to discover more as a result.

Looks like the best place to get the Born Under A Bad Sign Speakers Corner is from Acoustic Sounds for $35...though it's not free shipping until $50
Just be aware that you will be getting some weird panning or channel balance or mixing. If you don't mind that, I'm sure it is a great cut for what they had to work with.

Here's some discussion of it:

YMMV

To be totally fair, the recording on some songs on BUABS sound like straight trash and will never sound good, even in mono. Crosscut Saw comes to mind. At least his guitar sounds good on that. Sounds like he’s singing in a well 100 feet away from the mic.

Hope you music nerds are all as excited as I am for the ROTM announcement next Tuesday!!! 🤗💃🕺🙇‍♂️🙇‍♀️🤟📣🎁🎉😇😜

I haven't learned my lesson because I am indeed 🙈😁 can't wait to see what's behind the swap doors this month 🍀🚪 and how long I'll be trying to select it before I don't get it 😂😭 R&HH will be going to Classics but added tracks are open and ready for any good picks 🕵️‍♀️🎁🎁
