Vinyl Me Please Classics

Curtis was reissued in 2019 by Rhino. I wonder if it will be Motown release. Two Diana Ross records came out that year.

Jazz Mood would be a good one since it's only reissue was a European pressing in 2018.

Storf did say we were gonna eventually get a Motown Classics this soonish too I remember.

Jazz Moods would be a crazy pick. I got a first mono pressing earlier in the year and played a short clip on instagram. I had a load of messages from people saying they are in need of a repress. In fact, the majority of Lateef's Savoy stuff only have a handful of reissues, the whole thing could do with a big reissue campaign.

Here's some other '68 ones:

Roland Kirk - The Inflated Tear (Isn't Left and Right '69?)
The Jazz Composer's Orchestra
Cecil Taylor - Conquistador
Thelonius Monk - Underground
Lee Morgan - Gigolo
Eric Dolphy - Iron Man
Bobby Hutcherson - Stick-Up!
Coltrane - Om (conflicting '67/'68 dates)

Ben Webster could be a Classics as he was what would now be Essentials. I eliminated Miles and Coltrane since VMP said before they wouldn't do another Miles and the Coltrane is the most available Coltrane around.

I wonder if 68 is Sun Ra. They've done 2 exclusives already. We're also due for another Blue Note.

Is Coltrane out for classics eventually? I thought the Live in Paris counted more as a Miles album for that(Sorcerer was Essentials right?). It would be cool to get some Coltrane on classics.

Also I could see Sun Ra as a classics eventually. There already have been two Ra VMP exclusives right?

There was also Coltrane (The First Trane) released in 57 under Prestige. Hasn't had a US repress since 2010. I think Om in 68 would be more likely.

Om is actually quite terrible imo. Possibly his worst album but I also don’t like free jazz Coltrane (after Ascension) much. I have an original but have only listened to it once and didn’t particularly enjoy it. I might have to revisit it.
