I am canceling my sub so that’ll free up a spot also.
You’re right about it most likely sounding better. I think I’m going to keep the VMP version solely for side B. Those three songs are fantastic.I’m also getting Teddy! I cannot wait to spin it as I know it’s going to sound outstanding! It’s good to know the originals sound great too! Can’t go wrong with whichever you pick! The VMP is more pricey, but will probably sound better than the original!
It “sold out” but then they opened up more spots as I got an email about it and re-signed up for it. Classics and maybe country might be the two smallest pressings out of the 4 subs. It wasn’t in swaps today but typically they seem to hold some back for replacements and then sell them later. Occasionally they might repress them but I can’t think of which classics got repressed off the top of my head…Did Lee Morgan sell out completely do we know? Was it even in swaps first thing this AM?

Archie Shepp was repressed really early on.I think JL Hooker plus the VMP100 Al Green and Davis/Coltrane were the only Classics represses
Blossom Dearie too.Archie Shepp was repressed really early on.
Yeah I remember that one happened before JLH repress. It was a big deal.Blossom Dearie too.
I’ve missed out on quite a few classics and haven’t regretted much! Out of the classics pressings I have gotten I’ve only regretted buying one or two. It’s definitely been the most consistently good track in both curation and quality.I joined with Muddy Waters so my experience only goes back that far. I’ve learned to not not pass on Classics unless I was definitely not interested . Almost missed Herbie and Willie Bobo before I realized they would sell out and probably be gone for good
Looking back at the list—Gabor is the only one I really regret missing out on. But out of 4+ years worth of VMP, my most played ROTMs are nearly all from classics. Al Green, Otis, Albert King, and Aretha all get pretty frequent spins from me. I’ve been enjoying King Curtis a lot too lately but bought that on the Hoffman classifieds for cheap.I think the only classics I thought in hindsight “eh I probably could’ve swapped that” since joining were Leon Ware, Bar-Kays, Nat Turner, and maybe Fred Knight. I did swap Patrice Rushen and Celia y Johnny. It’s been such a stellar track, VMP’s saving grace for sure if you like high quality audiophile pressings worth the $33 price tag
You know what? I’m going to do exactly this my friend.1) Sign up for a 3 month sub in the track you are least interested in. (I am 3 Month international = $149)
2) Add on the tracks you actually want. ($33/each)
3) Always swap your primary track for credit. (In the example of $149/3 month, it should be $49.67, but they give you $49.70 in credit.)
If you don't spend the store credit, when it's time to renew, ask for CS to switch your Store Credit to Member Credit, and it's like you have only ever been paying $33/month (which is a savings of $16.70/month).
If you spend the store credit, it's like getting a bonus record every two-three months.
Hope that makes sense.
Very similar here - Patrice was the first classics I swapped, and also Ware, Bar-Kays, and Knight. I picked up Knight later on in swaps though.I think the only classics I thought in hindsight “eh I probably could’ve swapped that” since joining were Leon Ware, Bar-Kays, Nat Turner, and maybe Fred Knight. I may be one of the only ones who enjoyed that Patrice pick. Bar-Kays and Knight I picked up a couple of months ago and was surprised how much I enjoyed them.Very similar here - Patrice was the first classics I swapped, and also Ware, Bar-Kays, and Knight. Leon Ware is probably my biggest disappointment of all of the Classics I’ve bought.
Mmmmm, even for a tiny second I was a bit uncertain, but I think Ryan Smith is going to do a splendid job with remastering Life is A Song Worth Singing!!! I think the pressing will sound glorious and I think I’ll have a really good time listening to the record! There’s something quite luxurious and exquisite sounding about the album and side B is heavenly sex music! So I’m super keen to spin this Teddy Pendergrass ROTM when I get it!Wasn’t sure about Teddy initially but after a few listens I think RKS is going to do something worth singing about with this release.
I tried to like it if that's any consolation. Don't feel bad though, music (as much as any art) is meant to be subjective.So…..is there anyone else here who’s favourite Classics ROTM is Leon Ware’s “Musical Massage”?!? Or at least in their top three Classics ROTM’s of all-time?
I don’t know anyone who’s favourite Classics ROTM is Musical Massage…
Anyone else really love Musical Massage for how romantic and seductive the album is?
