Vinyl Me Please Classics

Have no idea how I feel about this Boogaloo Joe Jones, I guess that says enough about wether not I should fork over some $$$ for it. Perhaps if I want a guitar jazz album next month I'd be better off grabbin Joe Pass - For Django finally. Definitely in for Phineas and excited to listen to that Stax selection.

Im hoping the pink hue on Phineous Newborn is just a lighting issue. Its not a huge issue but I do wish they used the highest quality sources for their artwork.
I was streaming the album on my lunch walk and the image in Apple Music also looks a bit pink-ish, like some Insta filter.

That's worrying though because maybe they used a later CD as a source again.

I have an early copy that doesn't seem to have been edited with the hue. Interestingly the "STEREO DISC" stamp on my cover seems to have been physically stamped on afterwards. The ink is raised and textured.

you don't have Joe Pass yet? I'd definitely do that over Boogaloo personally. That Joe Pass album is amazing.

Grant Green's The Latin Bit just came out too on Tone Poet and that is even better, then again I love audiophile latin jazz, the guitars and percussion add so much texture and depth to the soundstage.
Not yet, will probs pick both of these up instead of doing anything with VMP next month.

I am eyeing Teddy Pendergrass though 🤔

Only one not pressed at RTI

Looks like Gz was just the "if QRP or RTI are too busy"

And even with Gz their black vinyl does sound better than color

they are all still pressed at GZ. First two are plated at RTI and Johnnie Taylor is plated at Welcome to 1979.

edit: they listed only the plating info in the magazine and not where they are pressed so people would think they aren't done at GZ it seems. but if you go to the individual listings I think they are all GZ.

Seems kinda shady as you have to click on Show More under Other Features to even see it's pressed at GZ, as even VMP know it's not a selling feature.

That said, I am considering coming back for Phineas and Tribe next month, even if they are pressed at GZ.
(But just that one month damnit. I can quit anytime I want!)

They have been doing this for a while now, having the pressing plant listed under the accordion. If people care about who did the mastering they also want to easily know where it was pressed, so it does seem like it was done on purpose to be a bit of "don't look behind the curtain"

Seems like they have gone one step further now though and said "plated at RTI" in the magazine and descriptions and omitted GZ mention at all there. Probably a smart-ish business decision but kind of misleading. I see lots of people on reddit making the mistake of thinking they are pressed at RTI.
