Vinyl Me Please Classics

Paulie was always sound and helpful. Storf, well let’s hard agree to disagree, he always rubbed me up the wrong way with pretty much everything he said or did. In fairness it was mutual…
Yeah on the old forum I just didn’t see eye to eye with him and he definitely did not get me at all lol. Plus let’s just say his curation and writing is, for me, very poor.

That’s fine, people don’t always get on, I’m just not going to be going around throwing any compliments his way!

I will admit I was never on the old forum and my interactions with him have not been extensive. My take on the curations is he's trying really hard to do a killer job. IMO he's more often than not doing it -- not all the picks are for me, and I am not a fan of all the stuff he champions and thinks is great (Sublime was meh, so seeing three of their records is just....triple meh) but I can tell that for the people that are into that stuff, they're doing a great job. The hip hop stuff is largely not my thing -- my tastes are very specific when it comes to that stuff and I tend to think that vinyl is not a great format for RHH -- but again, the curation has it's fans. But you know what, some of the country picks have piqued my interest and I have found myself admitting that there's legit some country that I like just because I like it.

What are we thinking for July and August?
August: Wynton Marsalis - Black Codes (From the Underground)

July: Archie Shepp or McCoy Tymer if they repeat artists (which is on the table).
Hugh Masekela if they don’t. Might be other options too. This one is far from locked down.

The guesses are fast and furious over on Discord. Come join in.

I thought Masakela doesn't fit the year from the second clue?

I thought it was confirmed one of the months would definitely be a repeat artist? So I don’t think it’ll be Masekela.

Yeah I've had better luck recently but certain releases GZ just pooches it and every copy has beginning of side noise. VMP Yves Tumor for instance.
But my SRV was perfect.

Yeah, I came back for SRV and Freddie Roach. SRV is perfect (aside from a corner ding), and, well, Freddie Roach is super noisy on B1. Jokes aside, I knew what I was getting into with them being pressed at GZ, and I'm sure CS will send me a new one; it's just annoying. I'm optimistic their new plant will reduce the number of pressing issues.

Yeah I'm also hopeful the new plant will eventually fix these issues. I do not understand how GZ is still managing to put beginning and end of side noise on nearly every record. But it's like clockwork. Don't have this issue consistently with any other plants.

The other tracks look like duds outside of Q-Tip. What’s it lookin like over here classics nerds? Gimme something good!

July: Archie Shepp (There's a Trumpet in My Soul) or McCoy Tyner (Trident or maybe Atlantis)
Either way, a deep cut hidden gem from one of these masters.

August: Wynton Marsalis - Black Codes (From the Underground)
Wynton is a jerk, but this album is fantastic. Arguably the best jazz album of the 80s not by someone named John Zorn.

September: Hound Dog Taylor - Natural Boogie
Most fun Classics RotM ever. I would guess this will sellout fast.
