Vinyl Me Please Essentials

not yet, I think last I checked the tracking it was scheduled to arrive tomorrow. if I get another defective copy and your new one is good I would be interested in your warped Disc 1 if something like that would even be possible, as long as it isn't too warped with the same defect as well. šŸ™ƒ
If your new copy is defective, holla at me and I'll shoot you my duplicate copy!

Schwartzman was Max Fischer (to me) before I ever even heard of Phantom Planet. The one that I remember was the lead singer of Phantom Planton (Alex Greenwald?) was a bully in Donny Darko (along with a pre-Freaks & Geeks Seth Rogan)
Mind is blown! I know exactly who you're talking about in the movie but never realized it was either of them before.

Really sorry everyone, but this is too many VMP threads. I'm sure it's possible to discuss swap options within the existing VMP ones. We already have 5??

Mostly joking, but still... I don't agree

I was glad a swaption thread was created because I'm not sold on any of the 3 tracks this month and am not sure where to bring this discussion (which addresses all three). But moderators gonna moderate, I guess.

I'm technically a Classics subscriber but I'm having a hard time justifying dropping $27 on the Sister Rosetta record. Outkast is not a good option because RHH never gets any play because of the 2yo, and Phoenix... is such a top-heavy album. I love "Fences" to death but even in 2009 I didn't think that one of the year's best albums. So, I'm looking long and hard at the swaptions available.

I currently have Juju - Chapter Two: Nia selected but am not 100% committed. Does anyone here have that record? I can't find a full stream on YouTube, but I quite like the available tracks. I'd appreciate any description. Fwiw I don't like jazz that is too "out there" (e.g. Art Ensemble, Lightmen Plus One, etc. did nothing for me), so I'm hoping this one is at least a bit a more "grounded" (if that makes sense).

I swapped Outkast for Lafawndah. I had been eyeing it for a while and it only has 300 copies and is normally $32. Its a great album that has a solid Solange vibe if you dig her.

The fact is this isn't a VMP forum and we are not going to have it fill up with VMP threads.
Not loving this tone, TBH. I mean, we all get it's not the VMP forum but that's what brought, what, 98% of us here? We can't just pretty VMP isn't around anymore....hell, I'm probably canceling in the next week or so but thought the Swaptions thread was helpful to those still involved.

Is there a swap thread? I'm stuck for a swap... times like this, I wish the old VMP forum was still open for the wealth of knowledge on there.

I picked up Donald Byrd and Miles Davis already, and I'd quite like another jazz classics swap. I'm not wanting a funk / blues / soul swap as it wouldn't get played too often...
Is Alice Coltrane still available?

There's currently 346 threads, and just five, or 1% dedicated to VMP? Now there's gonna be just one? It's hardly filled up with VMP threads.
This. VMP threads just get bumped a lot because most of the VMP forum moved over here and still finds their service to be valuable. I think limiting that is unnecessary. What are the downsides of having VMP based threads?

Itā€™s more about the Vinyl Clubs forum being dominated by VMP. I get that people disagree but right now we do have a lot of folks wishing all the VMP threads were combined into one, similar to the other clubs where all related club talk is in one thread. We are still discussing the possibility but we may decide to make a poll about this.

The fact is, with the multiple tracks, the store, and now anthology, there are always going to be a need for multiple VMP threads. Can't we just get a VMP sticky in the Vinyl Clubs branch that then branches into it's own list of vmp threads? That way the people that don't want to see so many of those threads don't have to, and the ones that are looking for the information know where it is?

I agree with this. I can't see the justification for multiple threads with any of the other vinyl clubs, but with VMP it simply makes sense especially since each of the threads is pretty active, a lot of the info would get lost in the sauce if everything VMP related ended up in one thread. If there was any reason to have multiple threads devoted to the other clubs would it not happen?

I don't want this discussion to turn into a fight between those who want more VMP threads and those who don't want to but I would like to remember that there was a VMP forum that they, VMP, decided to shut down and they gave us 48h to get the f*** out. Despite everything we said, despite the beautiful message @mcherry sent, they decided to shut the forum down. So our admins did an outstanding job to create this forum, the community helped with money and ideas and we now have this beautiful place. I don't mind to see a thread for each track, another for the Anthologies and another for exclusives. But I do mind to see that, after being insulted by VMP as a costumer and as a person, after reading the recent emails some of us have been receiving (taking advantage of VMP...), etc... we are helping and promoting their products and business. Again, I don't want a fight at all but I agree with our admins and think that 5 VMP threads are more than enough to discuss VMP products.

I guess we will still be dealing with Evil Corp. In case our resolve falters, I just thought it would be useful to keep this post from MCherry as the reason we all started up our Rebel Alliance (yes I know, mixed metaphors):

I wrote this earlier to Cam. Iā€™ve been trying to find words for all of you but this is all Iā€™ve got for now so Iā€™m sharing publicly:

ā€œIā€™m just gonna ask: please donā€™t do this.

This forum isnā€™t like anywhere else on the internet. Publicly accessible and for the most part pretty damn friendly. Where else are you going to find music heads of all ages, shapes, and sizes, mingling together and sharing their knowledge, sharing pieces of their lives? You have a gear question? Head on over to our gear threads where people will try to answer and wonā€™t judge you for your set up or your budget. Wanna shoot the shit? Thereā€™s any number of threads looking for a tangent or try the Cafe where discussions range from venting about a job, sharing a family tragedy, or just communing with good-natured folks. How many people have been walked off the ledge in the Depression Support thread? I donā€™t know but you read through that thread and you know that itā€™s happened, that this forum has helped them. That people feel safe enough here to share their fears and their suffering, that this community will listen and not judge. Read through the Welcome thread and youā€™ll see a recent post from Edit: valued member1 who explained that when he first joined, this forum was an escape for him while his wife was dying in the hospital. Did you read through the Record Store Day thread and see how this year a group of us banded together to buy Edit:valued member2 his must-haves because he was too sick to go himself? The PIF thread you know but did you also see the Random Acts of VMP Kindness thread where some have shared how theyā€™ve benefited from fellow members with gifts out of the blue? The daily challenge threads, the whatā€™s spinning, so many small communities linked here together. Yes, some of these things happen in other places. But not all these things in one place.

I get that the forum has grown into something that may not match what you guys are today but you should still be proud of us, of what we created. Like any fully formed being, we bite occasionally, but thereā€™s so much more good here than bad. So much more. If staff needs to take another extended time out, please do that instead of shutting us down in two days. Two days isnā€™t enough time to wrap this up, to end what weā€™ve become. Spin this off as an unofficial forum, make us admins, give this place to us. Anything. Please. Please donā€™t do this.ā€

Iā€™m inclined to agree with this argument. Itā€™s one I have made in other threads. I think the poll may be the answer but I ask for everyoneā€™s patience while we parse through everyoneā€™s opinions.
