Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I'm done here, it's not a community forum. Have had enough of comments / threads / forums being deleted and I really hoped this place was different. Sadly it isn't.
I don't think this has anything to do with a lack of community. More of a want to establish ourselves as an independent entity outside of VMP as we move forward. Obviously, most of us are/were members of VMP and we can't shy away from that fact. Hence this thread exists in the first place, but we don't need to a be a carbon copy of the old forum. Streamlining and trimming the fat are all part of that process, especially in these early days.

Speaking of Jason Schwartzman....one of the Coconut Records albums would be great to have.

Also... remember Rooney? They were lead by Jason's brother which could be what y'all are thinking about
HA! I wanted to add that to my original post but couldn’t figure out how to work “Rooney” in. I actually saw them during the last “Touring” Lalapalooza [sic] it was Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, and Jane’s Addiction as headliners it was... okay.

So wait it’s a whole thread of this?

This existed in the old place? And was considered really helpful? I...have to confess I don’t get it. How did I miss that this was a thing?

Honestly, I think the Swaptions thread emerged because those excited about a given ROTM pick tired of others complaining about the pick within the same ROTM thread. In other words, it was a constructive way to take your grumbling elsewhere, and in the process, to gather opinions on past VMP exclusives. I’m keeping my wallet away from VMP so I could care less about the approach here, but I can reaffirm that the thread received significant use each month and seemed to provide value for many.

Yeah, I don’t personally know why a whole thread is needed for it when people can just solicit suggestions from others in any of the active threads but there are lots of really “specific” threads on here so it really doesn’t matter to me either way.

People keep saying the Phoenix album is gonna stick around for awhile......I wouldn’t be so sure about that. They headline major festivals for a reason.

I am keeping the record. I love it. It’s an essential record and it’s a staple of 00’s indie rock. They’ve never been my favorite band but I want it in my collection and I’m still happy to pay a little more for a nicer version/package.

So, based strictly on my completely unscientific assessment by the number of comments posted by excited Redditors, I would say the order of these selling out would be Oukast then down the road a bit Phoenix, and then even further still Sister Rosetta. the Phoenix ROTM comps nicely with The National but with a bit less obsessive fanbase which to me reads like it will stick around for at least a few months.

I saw Rooney at the first Coachella I went to ... I still love their debut album

Sooo, when did VMP create waitlists for non members to purchase AOTMs once members orders are fulfilled? What's the ducking point of membership anymore, seriously, so glad I got over the FOMO. That's basically the only reason to have a membership anymore.

Ohhhh, I *do* remember now that you mention the desire for people to take the complaining to other threads. I guess the part I don’t get is getting other people’s opinions on what to swap for: I take it that it’s less about the music and more about the strategy of picking wisely vis-a-vis value & inventory?

You would think, though some have seemingly used it to solicit input on the music...even when the album under discussion was merely a stream away. I’m guessing it was driven by a lack of available time, coupled with a perceived sense of urgency to lock in a swaption before it disappeared into the ether...

Wait a second. Weren’t the initial “clues” mid 2000’s indie garage rock something something?
Another VMP thread?
People were asking for it and as I started the original one in the old forums I went ahead and started it. If any mods want to delete it, feel free.
If people were asking then :)
Really sorry everyone, but this is too many VMP threads. I'm sure it's possible to discuss swap options within the existing VMP ones. We already have 5??
Sure, if you want.

The fact is this isn't a VMP forum and we are not going to have it fill up with VMP threads. We've had loads of complaints about there already being too many!
There's currently 346 threads, and just five, or 1% dedicated to VMP? Now there's gonna be just one? It's hardly filled up with VMP threads.
The fact is, with the multiple tracks, the store, and now anthology, there are always going to be a need for multiple VMP threads. Can't we just get a VMP sticky in the Vinyl Clubs branch that then branches into it's own list of vmp threads? That way the people that don't want to see so many of those threads don't have to, and the ones that are looking for the information know where it is?

While I am still buying all things VMP, I don't think we need more threads, I said in another VMP thread I am guessing by the end of the year we will only need one maybe two VMP threads, many people have cancelled and therefore participation should drop and VMP will be just like any other vinyl club discussed on the forum. I get right now we are accustomed to multiple threads concerning VMP. I don't think we need to go the nuclear route now and combine threads but I really think that will be the future and should be. All my opinion of course.

I will honestly be surprised if there is ever a time that classics, hip hop, and essentials can be discussed without confusion in one thread

As I said I think participation in the threads will decrease and it won't be that hard, we are still a very VMP centric group but no longer being on a VMP forum and receiving less info about things to says less posts, others clubs/labels have a few things going on but we are able to keep up in their threads. It will take time but I really do think it will happen.
