Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Outside of the occasional Ghibli flick, I don’t think I’ve bought any physical release of anime in over a decade. But I still have this on my shelf:

I'm still hoping it's a joke they came up with after they (finally) wised up to how we were figuring it out in advance.

If it's not a joke, the only marginally amusing thing about it will be reading their copy trying to justify it. They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for reissue ideas to land here.

Granted, I feel this way about almost all pop music, but this selection would be truly pointless other than to move units for someone who doesn't need it. Were they unable to line up Jack Johnson?
This might be inconsistent from someone that has been ragging on John Mayer but I am fine with Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews and shit like that. I think those guys are who they are no one is gonna go on a diatribe about how technically proficient Jack Johnson at the guitar is if you don’t like his music. He makes laid back folk pop for the Hollister set and that’s fine. I think what probably rubs me the wrong way about Mayer is if you don’t like him it’s because you just don’t get it 🙄. He also parades himself around like he’s Keith Richards and then plays “Daughter” which would be hilarious if he were in on the joke.

I haven’t found too many people saying if you don’t like him, you don’t get it. I do think a lot of people write off Mayer and say he’s not a good musician because all they know about him is his solo hits like Daughters (a song I absolutely despise) and I think it’s a bit of an unfair statement. The dude can play. Mayer and Gary Clark Jr are in the same kind of boat for me: I’m not a fan of their songwriting but recognize that they are both really talented musicians.

You ever go to a Best Buy and wonder what those Bose speakers sound like?

Bam Continuum.

You ever walk around a grocery store searching for the right produce?

Bam Continuum

You ever turn on the radio at around 2:30pm, turning the dial, looking for a sound from a bygone decade when Bush was still president?

Bam Continuum.

I will be the first say that when I was younger i hated John Mayer, Honestly for no good reason. But I grew up, and my sister reintroduced me to Johns sweet, sweet tones. This album, in my opinion, is essential. These are some big ol songs we got on here. Even if we are to ignore "Waiting on The World to Change", a song that could go die in a fire. We have "Gravity" a beautiful balled that has been used too many times as a weddings first dance. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room ", a song which you may have used to get over a girl in high school that wanted to spend more time with her friends then with you, Nicole. "Vultures", a rocker that is still used to this day to show off sound systems even though there are probably better songs out. "Bold As Love", a cover that doesn't really improve on the original but was probably done to fill out the tracklist. Need I go on?

I feel strongly about this album. I honestly don't know if its all positive. But I felt someone should at least defend it. Is it the best release VMP has done? No far from it. But I think you shouldn't write it off just because of one song.

I will be only picking up this album this month because Prince Pauls album is kinda meh and Classics doesn't really grab me.

Thanks for attending me TED Talk.

I guess it depends on who you are having the conversation with. A lot of folks I talk to about music are well aware of his guitar prowess and will assume that you must not be if you do not appreciate him on that same level.

I will always have a sweet spot for John Mayer as he led to one of the best surprises I ever pulled on my (now) wife. In April 2002, I was the Arts and Culture editor at my university newspaper in Vancouver and dragged her as my +1 to so many indie rock shows she loathed. I convinced her we should go down for a show in Seattle, but I didn't tell her who, which led her to think we were going to see Clinic, or Trail of Dead, or Murder City Devils, or something like that, followed by a 2am drive up the I-5 or crashing on someone's floor. She was NOT excited.

The actual show? A double bill of John Mayer and Norah Jones at The Moore Theater. We spent the afternoon wandering Pike Place Market and she saw a poster for the show and was in shock and suddenly in a fantastic mood. They were two of her favourite musicians at the time and continue to be two of her favourites to this day. I didn't propose to her for another 18 months, but I think if I had after that show she would've said yes.

Aside from that story, I like most of Mayer's adult alternative soft-rock; he's an excellent pop song-writer and a technically skilled guitar player, but I do find his narcissistic persona quite off-putting.

I saw this exact bill at the Fillmore in April 2002, was a great show! As for John’s persona, I feel like he’s toned it down quite a bit (or he has grown up finally?) I watch Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen quite often and John and Andy have become close friends over the years...whenever I see him on that show he comes across as a total sweetheart and someone who cares about his friends immensely.

I have this...

The two copies on top are Japanese printings the Boxset is in English. That’s about all I have explored on the Manga (is this even manga?) front.

If anyone is interested in hearing another take on Continuum -

Lindsay is a rising Country artist. Her producer gave her an assignment to pick her favorite album, break it down and cover it. I believe she did it all herself.

Please don’t randomly accuse me of making things up and lying. Like I said in the initial post it’s an anomaly I told people hunting URL’s to watch out for when it cropped up with Bella Donna.

Well... since you were aware of that, you could have posted this a couple days ago, yourself. And didn't. So congratulations, you get to condescendingly announce a fucking John Mayer album and kill some dreams.
