Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Everyone has very valid points. I offer my 2 cents:

The VMP talk will calm down. This is very fresh for some people. It is the end of a relationship so allow everyone to mourn in the way they need. Some of that mourning is manifested in the railing against the heartless acts of VMP. That will eventually die down.

I personally, hate the multiple threads. But I just avoid the ones I don't like. I do find it interesting to read the clues and the guesses. But it can get unwieldy trying to figure out what those are in a thread that is 30+ pages. Maybe the first post can be updated with "bookmarks" that takes you to an announcement post or a summary post or a list of swaptions for the month? That might help keep one or two threads contained to VMP info. But maybe that can't be implemented until all the VMP talk dies down. It might be a lot of work for the admins, I don't know. But it could be a way to have just a couple of VMP threads.

I have done a VMP search on google a few times. Nothing from Needles and Grooves came up in the first few pages. Now, I know nothing about search algorithms so take this with a grain of salt. At the moment, we are not giving VMP free ads - someone looking for VMP info in google isn't directed to us.

BUT! If the goal really is not to give any free ad space to VMP and my google search skills prove nothing, then this is all solved by filtering VMP into something. I've offered my suggestion but mine is tongue in cheek.

Man, Bankrupt! is such an underrated album. I always felt it was like WAM on steroids.

Yeah I prefer Bankrupt! Definitely one of the most played albums of my youth. In my opinion it has a lot more depth to it than WAM which makes it better for multiple listens. Both are great and my opinion is probably largely nostalgia based but Bankrupt! definitely has a special place in my collection.

Maybe we need a separate thread to vent about VMP bs? Keep the actual album talk in the dedicated threads? It's hard to sift through the essentials thread without stumbling on us refugees complaining about the various VMP issues.
I think that's the RIP thread. And then I think anything about exclusives or swapping etc can go 'Store Exclusives' thread (which might need to be renamed)

I still have a couple of months left on my VMP membership, so I have to worry about how to spend my $27 this month.

I changed my swap picks at least 8 times yesterday, so I'm really undecided. Can someone talk me into Phoenix? I find that album's Side 2 to be extremely same-y. Is there something I have missed (over the past 10 years)?

If not Phoenix then I might go with Boogarins i.e. the Brazilian Tame Impala. I just hate paying $27 for a $20 record.

Maybe we can encourage people with ongoing issues to keep them in the RIP thread then? Keep the talk in the Essentials/Classics/RHH or Store Exclusives to just discussing that stuff. I don't want anyone to feel like an "Outkast" for being excited about a new release or whatever (See what I did there?)

Yeah we hear you. This is the #1 topic of discussion among staff right now.

I agree, look I am still doing all things VMP but I don't think it deserves special-ish treatment on here

One thing I really disliked about the old forum was people telling me to keep it on topic or to go to another thread for what I was discussing. It makes conversations seem less organic (and more "intentional"?) I haven't seen that a lot here. It'd be cool if we didn't get to that point on our new and improved forum. :)

Can you please go to the Cafe thread to discuss about discussing things.

I never cared unless it got more about the side thing than the main thing for quite awhile

The only thing different here is the VMP discussion can derail other things going on, because of the bad blood.

As a counterpoint, some of that bad blood is based off of decisions, like customer service, that are germaine to the thread(s). I don’t think anyone has just said “VMP sucks” without at least making a discussion point about some ongoing issue that likely effects all members.
