Vinyl Me Please Essentials

The only Essentials I passed on this year were Caroline Rose, Dirty Projectors, and John Mayer. Great year for Essentials picks IMO, but I think I'm gonna pass on Prine/Strokes/Cudi. Granted, I might get that Prine and sell my current KG 2020 reissue if it looks like a superior pressing/reissue.

USPS is super bogged down right now. I have several shipments that are still moving around the system that were shipped two and a half weeks ago. One in pre-shipment still from the 2nd. Pretty crazy and hopefully it gets to you by Christmas.

It may be USPS but I would expect them to at least receive scan it. I was leaning towards it being VMP's shippers fault.

It's going to be the Stokes, but how many members did A Perfect Circle have around Thirteenth Step? Is it ruled out yet? I think I may be slightly more interested in that then the Strokes.

They sometimes don't when they are overloaded and receive a huge amount of shipments from one source (So this would qualify). But who knows...Im in the same "label created" group. Considering records i shipped via discogs at the beginning of the month have only made it one state over, at this point I figure I'll get it when I get it.

Exactly. Media mail is the absolute last priority too so that gets shoved in the corner of the post offices and forgotten about until they have time to actually scan stuff and send it on it’s way. Plus literally everyone is buying shit online for Christmas so I don’t expect timely media mail shipping at all until after the New Year.

Oi, I keep trying to really enjoy The Strokes but it never clicks outside of the odd track. I find their vocal mixing to be insufferable sometimes, feels like you can barely hear them over the instrumentation mostly and I don’t find the instrumentation to be impressive enough to warrant such a vinyl investment. I’d be buying this for Reptillia 😭😂

I think I would've actually preferred "Is This It"

If March turns out to actually be Cudi I'm definitely going to finally dip back into the VMP pool for first time in a long while on the monthly track for that month. If any exclusives tied to it as well I'm all in (if they could get WZRD that's be amazing).

I'd feel better if my box made it to its next destination and then sat there for awhile. It worries me a little more that the last activity was "departed Greensboro" six days ago and hasn't gotten to the next facility (usually Jersey City) yet. But I guess what you're saying is that it could have arrived there but hasn't been scanned in yet?

I think that is part of the charm. Casablanca’s vocals rarely rising beyond a disaffected mumble. Also, I think both their guitarists rip and play off each other in a nice tight fashion but that is my opinion and no ones gonna like everything.

I've actually always considered them both as equally good albums... Is This It was more impactful, of course, but song-for-song they both hold up for me. 🤷‍♂️
To each their own of course, but it seemed to me like they were just trying to copy the first album the best they could, and they did a terrible job. Or maybe that’s just what I wanted them to do and I was terribly disappointed by the result lol. Who knows, I haven’t listened to room on fire in forever. Is This It is one of the best of all time though.
