Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Hasn't been mentioned that I've seen, and is highly unlikely to get the Essentials treatment, but Lust Lust Lust by The Raveonettes also fits the clues for October Essentials. I would personally be ecstatic if it made the cut as the original Vice pressing is really not great, but I can't imaging too many other people would be.

And now that I think of it, The Coast Is Never Clear by Beulah fits the clues too, though if they were to do a Beulah album, it really should be the never pressed Yoko.

In any case, Grizzly Bear is far more on brand for VMP, so I'm sure it's that one.

Yeah, let's go ahead and just have all the Beulah albums available. That would be the right thing to do. Would love to have those!

some are guessing microcastle.. which.. i dunno
I’d much prefer Microcastle to Veckatimest, but 1) I think Grizzly Bear is much more on brand for VMP, and 2) the precedent has already been established for Microcastle/Weird Era Cont to be paired together, so the 12 tracks clue is blown out of the water unless they want to put out a subpar offering compared to what already exists.
But the question we all should be asking ourselves is, which album would pair better with 1 side full of GZ fuzz and crackle? and the answer is clearly Microcastle!

So is Cosmic Slop the current December front-runner? I have a VG 1976 pressing I found at a Habitat For Humanity ReStore a few years ago for a buck (along with a bunch of other extremely cool shit, just gonna humblebrag a bit about that probably being my best random digging haul ever).

So I might not jump on the VMP version, at least not right away. Hopefully, there'll be a Maggot Brain store exclusive, that's one I do need.

I would prefer Microcastle to Veckatimest purely based on the fact that I already own a perfectly acceptable copy of Veckatimest and don’t own any Deerhunter LPs. That being said, it’s definitely going to be Veckatimest.

Seriously. I've actually managed to pick up original pressings of both When Your Heartstrings Break and The Coast is Never Clear over the years (both of which are sound great), but would love to see either get a proper reissue. As for Yoko and Handome Western States, it genuinely blows my mind they've never gotten pressed.

Yoko would probably one of the few albums I would resub to vmp

No! I really don’t want if for be The Antlers’ Hospice! That album is boring, timorous and dry! Hospice would be an instant skip for me!

Hospice would be my least favourite Essentials ROTM in a very long time! I liks Jim Sullivan’s U.F.O. more than The Antlers’ Hospice!

If we get Hospice, it’s okay though because it means we would be getting Usher’s Confessions which is a superb album + a great 70’s funk album (likely the magnificent ‘There’s A Riot Goin’ On’ by Sly & The Family Stone)!
I agree. I find Hospice boring. But I get its appeal for some, broken or otherwise.

Imagine if A Crow Looked At Me came out while you were a teenager….actually you may have still been a a teenager when ACLAM was released… I am old.
Yeah thiy came out when I was married a couple of years and our first girl was about two. It's an album I just couldn't bear listening To and still is an album that hits too close to fear of loss and hurt that I never gravitated towards it

Cosmic Slop, The Meters’ Rejuvenation, and actually Parliaments The Clones of Dr Funkenstein all fit the clues. I’d say the former two are co-front runners

Selfishly since I already own a good copy of Dr. Funkenstein, I am hope for either of the other two. Probably rooting for the Meters slightly more since I only have one Meters LP.

I really can’t see them doing an essentials of a Funkadelic album and it being Cosmic Slop. It’s a fantastic album but it wouldn’t make sense to do that instead of Maggot Brain. Plus the rights for P Funk stuff is all over the place and I doubt VMP would be able to get an official release. The Meters on the other hand would be absolutely perfect.

I agree, hope it’s Meters. They did do a P-Funk exclusive a couple years ago though, so who knows.

Now many many people citing same right channel noise on Wu...
This has to be expensive for them. I know cost/benefit analysis isn’t a part of their business model but 3 months in a row of GZ fucking up your main sub and then requiring a bunch of extra replacements being sent out on top of potentially a 3rd repress, this has to start effecting their bottom line a bit, right?

You'd think. But I feel like there are so many replacements going out every month that it's really no different unless they need to do a repress. But while I thought they might repress Volta, and MAYBE Volta and ATliens, I don't think they're going to repress Volta, ATliens, Wu and PE. Which sucks because most people are 0-2 so far and I see no reason to think these issues won't be pretty much the same and probably very widespread. Which means a lot of people aren't gunna get a good copy of most of these.

Yeah, I kept a continuous sub for about 4 years and have been dipping in and out over the past couple years. I am probably just gonna avoid any of their LPs going forward if they are pressed at GZ regardless of how desirable. It’s not worth the annoyance, I haven’t even received my order for this month yet either.
