I've honestly wondered the same thing, too.I wonder if they are throwing out entries for writing "Sigur Ros - Agaetis byrjun" without any of those fancy characters.

If you are picking a Rufus Wainwright album as an Essential you are going with either, his Self-Titled Debut or, more than likely; Poses.doesn't he have a much broader appeal than, say, Patrick Watson? the fact that he's being mentioned here is basically the only reason why I thought of Rufus - I just don't think Patrick is that famous or even known (outside of Canada and some European countries) to be anywhere near the Essentials label
How are they even doing this? Are they running it through a computer (which could cause issues with SIgur Ros submissions) or is someone checking and grading all these answers by hand like a high school teacher?I've honestly wondered the same thing, too.
Already made sure by copy and pasting from WikipediaI wonder if they are throwing out entries for writing "Sigur Ros - Agaetis byrjun" without any of those fancy characters.
I think they are overthinking because it said "indie rock"... Grimes isn't really indie ROCK, indie synthpop, maybe synthwave, but I dunno if anyone has claimed her music to be rockYou guys are way over thinking this 2012 “Indie” release is gonna be Grimes.
Not saying you're wrong, but where the hell do they even get "indie rock" from Grimes? You guys are way over thinking this 2012 “Indie” release is gonna be Grimes.
They did put it in “quotes” and 2012 was around the time that the Rockist bias in indie music criticism began to cede and influential publications; like Pitchfork, began embracing a more Popist view. I think Grimes has a lot overlap with indie artist. Definitely not Rock but VMP has never been super great at categorization anyways. Not saying you're wrong, but where the hell do they even get "indie rock" from Grimes?
WANTWinner gets leftover noisy copies of Mars Volta and an autographed poster of Andrew Winistorfer
And there's always one clue every cycle that is a bit of a stretch and people tie themselves in knots over defining words coming from people who literally just cut and paste descriptions from the internet and think they're being clever in their "hints."They did put it in “quotes” and 2012 was around the time that the Rockist bias in indie music criticism began to cede and influential publications; like Pitchfork, began embracing a more Popist view. Correct, but with Grimes not even sure where they would get "indie rock". Not wikipedia or discogs, that's for sure. At least Mac Demarco it's right there in his wikipedia page. And there's always one clue every cycle that is a bit of a stretch and people tie themselves in knots over defining words coming from people who literally just cut and paste descriptions from the internet and think they're being clever in their "hints."
I don't think anyone's really getting worked up.Why is everyone getting all worked up over some stupid clues Storf came up with anyways?![]()

Allmusic.com, it's the first subgenre listed for the album.Correct, but with Grimes not even sure where they would get "indie rock". Not wikipedia or discogs, that's for sure. At least Mac Demarco it's right there in his wikipedia page.
EDIT: Anyway, whatever it is isn't going to improve my chances of sticking around. Time to pump some money into the Blue Note Classics/Tone Poet series.
I can tell that none of you want Grimes - Visions to be February's Essentials ROTM to the extent you're all trying to justify how it is NOT Grimes based on the clues provided by VMPI don't think anyone's really getting worked up.
Of course along with PK4 and all other music publications that had the album in their year-end lists.Allmusic.com, it's the first subgenre listed for the album.
Oh I don't mind visions being it (even if Grimes has ruined her public reputation faster than you can say "yo Taylor" with all the Elon musk stuff and NFT support), it's more just getting at storf for being a memeI can tell that none of you want Grimes - Visions to be February's Essentials ROTM to the extent you're all trying to justify how it is NOT Grimes based on the clues provided by VMP![]()
