Vinyl Me Please Essentials

It would get a sign up from me, which is dumb because I already have multiple copies 😂
Same! I love the album but it would also be a pretty weird pick for Essentials. I would wager that anyone who likes the Dead already has the album and anyone who doesn’t like the Dead or psych rock will probably hate the album. It’s by far their most experimental studio recording.

Yeah, I agree it would be a weird essentials pick. And honestly it doesn't need a repress. What's available sounds really good. It's Terrapin and everything after that needs to be pressed.

Yeah, I can't imagine Anthem is going to draw in the casual vinyl crowd. I don't even fuck around with primal Dead and Anthem is a tough listen if all you know is Truckin'.

Can't disagree with any of those arguments. I'd personally be stoked for Anthem, but it would probably be a tough sell for casual subscribers. I could, however, very much see VMP pushing the album's unorthodox production techniques as part of it not just being Essential Dead, but a psych Essential. Worth noting their Dead box set sold out pretty fast too, so they gotta think the market is there. And I think Hemotep has already proven Dead fans that already own the album will indeed buy another copy. As far as Anthem needing a repress, we can easily argue neither Check Your Head nor Blonde on Blonde were exactly begging for one either.

All that being said, I still think they'd rather push something like Cheap Thrills and flaunt it as the arrival of Janis Joplin.

Two debut albums. Interesting. 1998 and 2013. 1998 is definitely Lauryn Hill. 2013 could be Lorde, Disclosure, Haim, or Arianna Grande.

Haven't had what I would call dance/electronic release since ?Darkside?

2013 could be: Chvrchs or Disclosure?

What 2013 should be is RTJ1.

What my guess 2013 will be is: The 1975

What my fear 2013 will be is: Imagine Dragons

I'd love to replace my copy of RTJ1.
I would love a RTJ2 companion drop with the entire thing intact (Gangsta Boo's verse on Love Again).

Yeah, I recently picked up a nice 1976 pressing but for as often I listen to Anthem that is good enough for me. Their pre-Workingman’s albums are fine but I much prefer that material live than in its studio iteration.

Given their other forays into 60s rock, I think Anthem of the Sun actually makes a lot of sense and I do think the album would have appeal beyond Deadheads picking up multiple copies. I’d be in on a nicely packaged version (I’d love a kaleidoscope purple look on the vinyl) and my reissue would be hitting the PIF threads.
