Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

I don't know who the fuck Mach Hommy is, or what he did to you guys but every time I see his name at my local record shop I laugh out loud.

Also, if this isn't Public Enemy I'm gunna puke.

But if it is Public Enemy I'm gunna puke a rainbow of joy.

U got Mach Hommy vinyl at your local!?!!

We need to discuss this revelation. If ur ever in there and start to laugh, think of me. I will send monies

It would be incredible if it was Public Enemy’s “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”! I have it on vinyl, but like most of us, want a high quality pressing of it! 🙏

Having Public Enemy and Aretha Franklin in the same ROTM month would be unbelievable! 🤭

If you don’t think it’s Public Enemy Mather, then what is your prediction? Slick Rick? 🤔

I know they said in the past that for this year they started to try to link the 3 tracks each month in one way or another. PE would certainly fit the bill here, what with the various Aretha samples... And if you're busting out hyperbole like "most important rap album ever" you have to imagine PE are in like, the top 5 possibilities. But in the past Storf has shown that his opinions on things like this seem to be... a little outside the norm. Especially when it comes to rap/hip hop. So... I'm not keeping my hopes up. I'm expecting something like Raising Hell, The Chronic or Straight Outta Compton... Which isn't bad at all, but if it's It Takes A Nation I don't know how that wouldn't be Essentials. However it is December and they like to go big at the end of the year so I guess it's possible... But I suspect I'm gunna be disappointed...

Honestly I know I saw some but it's probably just a guest spot or something. There are no vinyl deals in Toronto. You do not just stumble across valuable records here. These store owners know their shit...

Take your pick (though I’ve put the date in the UK format so do the old Freedom Swap of the day and month if you need more US results):

Got it! Thank you - I haven't been following this as I have another 2001 pressing but I think I need instrumentals too. I'm seeing some sealed OG instrumentals for like $20 shipped on Discogs so may just go with that, but wanted to compare prices.

Edit: This has OG cover w/ instrumentals stamp on it, so will definitely grab the newer version. Thx!

Edit again: I kind of like the "DJ copy style" of the original, and it's cheaper. Decisions, decisions!

If Mather is talking about the spot I think he is (Sonic Boom), it's Saturday Night Lights Vol. 1 & 2 for the low low price of $50 canadian plus tax. A steal

Mmmmm couldn’t agree more with you on all of this! It’s so true that it’s hard to understand why It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back wouldn’t be an Essentials ROTM!?!? But also very true VMP like to go big in December!

Here are just some brief opinions of those three other records you mentioned, if they were to be chosen as the R&HH ROTM!

Run DMC’s Raising Hell would be a very boring pick in my opinion, unless they do something interesting with the pressing! It’s a great album but I think it shouldn’t be in the spotlight at all, and doesn’t need to be reissued either as the current pressing sounds great!

Dr. Dre’s The Chronic would be really nice! If they do a high quality pressing of that, even though it won’t be from the original tapes, I’ll still be very stoked!

N.W.A.’s Straight Outta Compton would only be an amazing pick if they were to include the full tracklisting for the first time on vinyl, like OutKast’s Southernplayalisticadilacmuzik! If the R&HH ROTM was Straight Outta Compton with just the 10 track-list 1LP pressing, I’ll be disappointed...
