Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Is it bad that I didn't even know who Skee-Lo was until this thread?

Looked him up on wikipedia and saw this choice descriptor: " Antoine Roundtree (born March 27, 1975), better known by his stage name Skee-Lo, is an American rapper. He is best known for his 1995 song, "I Wish", which became a hit in several countries and reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.[5] He is considered to have been a one-hit wonder."

One-hit wonder? Cool choice.

yeah but the one hit was very political.

That song was on heavy rotation on MTV the summer between 7th and 8th grade but even my Junior High self knew I didnt need to own the album.

They play that song once an hour at six flags so I’ve heard it 100s of times since I had a kid.

That’s the thing about strong years, I get PISSED when there’s a weak selection. Like out of all the records of 1969, you’re telling me I’m going to give you money for Jim Sullivan??! Nope. And out of all the great RHH of 1995, going with a less-than-epic selection is super disappointing

I really connect with you on that one! Like 1995 is maybe my favourite year for hip-hop in the 90's because you had incredible albums from Mobb Deep, Raekwon, GZA, Big L, O.D.B., Goodie MOB, 2Pac, The Pharcyde, Smif-N-Wessun etc

And now there's a strong chance we could be receiving Skee-Lo or Doug E. Fresh as the 1995 R&HH ROTM and that is just soooo underwhelming! If it's Skee=Lo, it will be an instant skip, just like with Future! If it's Doug E. Fresh, then I might skip; I would have to give the album a dedicated listen first as I haven't actually heard it (just previewed a bit of it).
