Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Alright I’ll do them allll

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Kill the Moonlight
Gimme Fiction
Transference
Hot Thoughts
Girls Can Tell
Series of Sneaks
Telefono/Soft Effects
They Want My Soul

I think Transference is the one people need to revisit. It’s absolutely amazing and imo their sleeper masterpiece. I love the demo like style to it. Some songs seem like sketches but it really works in the records favor.

Ready for my hot take? The Divine Fits LP is the best album that Britt Daniel has ever made.

Better not go into the VMP R&HH Thread then.

I mean I’d like someone who likes hip hop to sign up for ours and add diversity. My only criticism with them so far is that a lack of diversity in pickers has led to a lack of diversity in picks. I’d like to encourage them to come into ours and add to the mix because I don’t think we’re a big enough forum with only 1,000ish members to be running all sorts of competing versions of the same thing.

That’s not right, It’s a good album but it isn’t in the same realm as Spoons best.

Have you ever checked out that Home series; Vol. 4 is a spit between Britt Danials and Bright Eyes? Britt’s couple of tracks on that are pretty great too, not equal to the best Spoon tracks but still some nice hidden gems.

No I haven't heard of that. I'll have to check it out.

I will say though that as much as I love Spoon, I've probably played that Divine Fits record more than most of the Spoon albums combined. It's perfect.

I don’t feel that’s a fair comparison. It’s actually really disingenuous.

One is giving one particular store, one that’s burnt people on here in particular preferential treatment over all other stores. No publicity is bad publicity and it gives all their releases a huge public airing that no one else is.

As you well know the other isn't a store, it’s in effect a self run “book club” style monthly recommendations thread by a different member from the forum. There’s no self interest, beyond the kudos of a good pick, or monetary benefit, it’s actually the very nexus of a positive community centric idea. Also as the person managing it for now I am dead against any thoughts of more than one a month.
The majority of people here came in because they were VMP members. It's as simple as that. There are still VMP members here who want to discuss the various tracks. I don't see consolidating tracks as anything other than people disliking VMP (which is 100% warranted) and not wanting their presence on the forums. If I don't want to talk about the VMP stuff, then I just stay out of the VMP threads.

I also would be down with a N&G RHH of the month thread and I know a bunch of people in the RHH thread are for it. I don't see it as competition. People can (and likely will) do both. And if not, then it will likely help drown out the VMP threads if that's what people want.

Yeah I mean I was opening an invite not trying to shut it down, stronger together and all that, but whatever

Why are we ranking Spoon albums? Other than it's more fun than debating the merits of a jumped the shark vinyl company we’ve all spent too much time and money on, but brought most of us together in the first place.

My Favourite Spoon albums:
1 - Gimme Fiction
2 - Girls Can Tell
3 - Kill the Moonlight
4 - Ga ga ga ga

Series of Sneaks and Telephono are fine, but a band trying to find itself, so inconsistent.

The last three are very good, but I haven’t spent much time with.

I did see people suggest in the Hip hop thread for someone to sign up for N&G ROTM which would be awesome. I have only tangentially followed along with the N&G thread but will likely be spending more time over there now! Excited to dive into it more

Id love it. We’ve had so many genres and good picks but I think the fact that most of the people who have signed up have been white blokes we’ve had a lot of picks that have essentially also been white blokes playing lots a different types of music. To mix some rap or hip hop or modern rnb or anything else that anyone likes, and thinks they should share, into the equation would be welcome.

Glad someone else feels this way. “Got Nuffin” is one of my favorite Spoon tracks, but I kinda wrote off the rest of the album when it came out because it didn’t grab me. But when I spent some more time with it before seeing them live a few years ago, suddenly it opened up a lot more to me. I think it’s getting put at the end of these lists by default, not because it actually deserves it.
Also one of my all time favorite Spoon tracks. And agreed that Transference is underrated.
