Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

That's My Story sounds incredible. Like I'm in a juke joint and he's right there. Travelin' sounds good, but not as good, plus some minor whirring.
Great to know That’s My Story sounds incredible! That’s the exclusive out of the two I’m looking most forward to! 😍

Minor whirring? What’s that exactly? I’ve never heard of the word ‘whirring’ before!

No one talking about the new Rising?

Their description of it is "punk-tinged dream pop" which uhhh... I gotta say I'm a little intrigued at how that works. Might just be the lyrics are kind of punk-ish but the musical style is dream pop, idk

I'm about to go to work, but the album's up on their Bandcamp for anyone interested in listening to it:

Didn’t listen to more than the track you linked to but I am hearing nothing punk about this at all. A much more apt description would be Lo-fi Dream Pop and it is fine. Nothing earth shattering but enjoyable enough. Maybe some of the other tracks show off the punk elements more.

Edit: okay the next track I am getting a bit of a late period Yeah Yeah Yeahs vibe. It seems to oscillate between the the two styles.

The next track, Legend of Chav is a little more rock, but 4 songs in and no part of it seems "punk-tinged" to me, nor does it remind me of great Dream-pop albums like Heaven or Las Vegas, et al. Idk, it's pleasant enough, like the music you might hear in a Banana Republic in the mall. I guess that's not really a compliment.

I feel like Rising artists are the ones most negatively hit by the lack of having VMP members on their own forum. I listened to (and then bought) Gang of Youth and checked out other early Rising albums because @a-b would shill them on the old forum. Obviously that no longer happens.

Still waiting for a pick that rivals Kate Bolinger and Channel Tres in terms of enjoyability. Everything has felt like more of the same this year. Alto Palo was interestingish, Jaunt was cool but not enough for a purchase, but other than that its been a snooze.

Ahhh I see! Glad to know it’s only very minor. Still would’ve been better though if it didn’t include any whirring!

Sorry if my response came off weird - it was meant to be silly and I was also a little tipsy at the time. 🍻

I've been listening to that Pottery record that's in the sale section a lot lately. Loving the mix of Talking Heads and Devo sound. May have to pick it up if it lasts past the holidays!

You know what's mind boggling, my ROTM package was scanned in on Monday and is out for delivery today in southern CA. Probably the fastest shipping of a ROTM I've ever received. The mysteries of USPS continue to amaze.
Dont question it, just smile and wave!!

My VMP box came today with Donny Hathaway, Billie Holiday and Dinner Party. What's weird though is that I added the Hip Hop track and swapped for Idris Muhammad, which wasn't included. Either they have forgotten to add it or its coming in a separate box.

I don't know what the infamous issues are, but I thought it sounded great. Not one of my best, but not one of my worst either, it's up there with other great pressings, volume is good, no non fill or clicks I heard... I'll relisted later though and I'll let you know if anything pops up. 👍
i just hear the stories about when vinyl was limited they would just destroy all the records (including the labels) and press the recycled remains, meaning a lot of noise and a lot of issues

I think you might have missed out on the St. Panther VMP Rising pick that only came out around three months ago! The music on that one is right up your alley! The instrumentals are smooth, head-bopping and the whole EP is moody and has just such a lazy, beautiful kick-back vibe to it! It’s definitely my favourite VMP Rising this year and I prefer it maybe over both the Channel Tres and Kate Bollinger VMP Rising releases.

The St. Panther VMP Rising did sell out quickly though! It didn’t last a week in store!
